The Los Angeles Dodgers might have clinched the 2025 World Series, but they’re heading into the offseason with a clear focus: bolstering the bullpen. Edwin Diaz has already been signed on a hefty $63 million deal, yet the Dodgers are still on the hunt for additional depth. With a wealth of prospects at their disposal, the trade market seems ripe for exploration.
One intriguing trade idea, floated by Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer, involves bringing in right-handed reliever Griffin Jax from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Although Jax's availability is uncertain, he fits the profile of a typical Dodgers target. His career numbers might not jump off the page, but the combination of his pitching arsenal and command marks him as a potential elite reliever.
Jax, now 31, has spent much of his career with the Minnesota Twins, boasting a 4.04 ERA across 299 games. His stint with the Rays in 2025 saw him post a 3.60 ERA over 23 games.
While his overall stats are solid, Jax truly shined in 2024 with the Twins, achieving a stellar 2.03 ERA in 72 appearances. That season, he recorded 10 saves, 95 strikeouts, and a remarkable 207 ERA+, contributing 2.8 wins above replacement (bWAR).
The mid-season trade to the Rays has left Jax under club control for two more seasons, making him an attractive option for the Dodgers’ bullpen, which could use another seasoned right-hander. Alongside Diaz, Jax would join a roster featuring Tanner Scott, Alex Vesia, Blake Treinen, Jake Dryer, and Will Klein.
Jax’s potential is underscored by Fangraphs' Pitching+ metric, where he scores an impressive 128, just behind Aroldis Chapman's 130. If the Dodgers can pull off a trade like the one Rymer suggests, Jax could be a key addition this spring, enhancing an already formidable bullpen.
