The 2026 MLB postseason is finally here, and the bracket is set from the Wild Card Series all the way through the World Series. The first round starts Tuesday afternoon with four best-of-three matchups, and the winners will move on to the Division Series to meet the teams that earned first-round byes. After that come the best-of-five League Division Series, then the best-of-seven League Championship Series, and finally the World Series.
In the American League, the Rays and Guardians are waiting out the first round as the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds. The Astros face the White Sox, while the Yankees draw the Red Sox in the other Wild Card Series.
The National League picture has the Brewers and Dodgers holding the byes. The Braves will meet the Phillies, and the Padres will take on the Cubs.
From there, CBS Sports MLB writers laid out their full brackets, and they do not all see the postseason ending the same way.
Mike Axisa is going with the Dodgers over the Yankees in the World Series. His approach is simple: take the teams that look strongest and trust the rest.
He points to the Yankees’ offense and pitching, even without Aaron Judge, while noting concern about an overworked bullpen. On the Dodgers’ side, he sees a team that is less airtight than the last two seasons, especially with Shohei Ohtani not at full strength, but still loaded enough to win it all.
He also expects Josue De Paula to become a major October factor and force his way into the everyday lineup.
Dayn Perry sees a different finish: Brewers over Rays. He says postseason predictions come with a lot of randomness, and he sees that especially this year because the National League is packed with teams capable of winning the title while the American League has, in his view, at most two.
He admits he is tempted to fade the Brewers because of their lack of power, but he believes they have the deepest and most balanced roster and excel at run prevention. He still likes the Dodgers, but thinks their core is older and more injured than it was a year ago.
If Aaron Judge were fully healthy, Perry says he would lean Yankees in the AL, but since that is not the case he has the Rays coming out of that side and making it an all-small-market World Series. He has the Brewers winning in seven, helped by their bullpen depth.
Matt Snyder also has Brewers over Rays. He calls the AL weak, though he says the Rays are a legitimately great team and should get through that side of the bracket.
Even so, he believes an NL team will win the championship, and while he still views the Dodgers as the most likely winner, he says the path to a title is difficult and back-to-back-to-back championships are rare for a reason. In his bracket, the Brewers get it done after being swept last year, and Jackson Chourio becomes the breakout star of October.
