The Lightning’s prospect group is about to get its first real spotlight of the new cycle, and the 2026 Prospect Showcase should give Tampa Bay fans an early read on a few names that already carry real weight.
The games run from Sept. 13 to Sept. 15 in Morrisville, NC, with Lightning prospects facing the Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators prospects. There’s always room for a surprise or two in a setting like this, but a handful of players already stand out as the ones worth tracking closest.
Benjamin Rautiainen is the headliner. The forward is coming off a huge year in Liiga, where he was named the league’s MVP after becoming the first player to reach at least 70 points in a season since 2007-08.
Tampa Bay fans are finally about to see him in North America, and this showcase could matter in a big way as he tries to push for an opening-night NHL roster spot. If he doesn’t stick, he’ll head back to Finland for next season, so every shift here matters.
Sam O’Reilly is in a similar conversation. The forward arrives after winning back-to-back Memorial Cups, and he piled up major hardware along the way by earning MVP honors for the regular season, playoffs and Memorial Cup.
His production held up wherever he played, with points-per-game marks of 1.0 with the Kitchener Rangers, 1.53 with the London Knights and 1.14 with Team Canada at the World Juniors. He already showed at the World Juniors that he can handle junior competition, and this week gives him another chance to prove he can keep driving play against elite prospects.
With the Lightning still lacking some center depth, a strong showing - especially in the faceoff circle - could help his case.
Dylan Duke is another forward with something to prove. He’s already made it to the NHL, but he has just three career games to his name, so the question is when he turns that brief taste into a real role.
The 23-year-old just put together his best season with Syracuse, finishing with career highs of 32 goals and 59 points. He also chipped in two points in four Calder Cup Playoff games against the Cleveland Monsters, and those efforts earned him Syracuse’s Offensive Player of the Year award.
He’ll get preseason action too, but this showcase is the first step.
Then there’s Harrison Meneghin, the goalie who gives this list some balance. Tampa Bay selected him in the seventh round in 2025, and this will be his second appearance in the showcase.
His first pro season came with some bumps, as he played 14 games for the Orlando Solar Bears and finished with an .889 save percentage and a 3.29 goals-against average. Still, he had four games with at least 30 saves and posted a shutout against the Jacksonville Icemen on Nov.
13, 2025. Before that, he helped the Medicine Hat Tigers reach the Memorial Cup Final in junior hockey.
Other prospects could end up stealing the show, but these four give you a solid starting point. Tampa Bay’s first game is Monday at 2 p.m. against the Predators prospects.
