The Tampa Bay Lightning have sent three players from Syracuse down to Orlando, moving forwards Milo Roelens and Connor Kurth and defenseman Dyllan Gill to the Solar Bears, Syracuse Crunch general manager and head coach Joel Bouchard announced.
Roelens brings the biggest body of ECHL and AHL experience in the group. The 23-year-old center spent last season split between Syracuse and Orlando, appearing in 20 games with the Crunch and recording three assists, then playing 39 games for the Solar Bears and posting 11 goals and nine assists.
Since turning pro in 2023, the 6-foot-7, 225-pound Roelens has played 56 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, and 55 career ECHL games, all with Orlando. He has 11 points in the AHL and 23 points in the ECHL.
Before that, he put together a long junior run in the QMJHL, skating in 238 games from 2019 to 2024 with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Sherbrooke Phoenix and Gatineau Olympiques and finishing with 165 points.
Kurth, also 23, is headed back to the organization’s ECHL side after a strong season in Orlando. He played 53 games with the Solar Bears last year and finished with 14 points, including nine goals.
He also spent time with the Reading Royals, where he had 11 points in 20 games, and made his pro debut with Syracuse in the 2024-25 season, picking up one assist in five games. The 6-foot, 206-pound forward came out of the University of Minnesota, where he played 115 games over three seasons from 2022 to 2025 and scored 32 goals with 71 points.
Tampa Bay originally picked Kurth in the sixth round, 192nd overall, at the 2022 NHL Draft.
Gill, 22, also returns to Orlando after seeing action with both clubs. The 6-foot-2, 202-pound defenseman played three games for the Crunch last season and later skated in 64 games with the Solar Bears, collecting three goals and 15 assists.
During the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 24 games for Syracuse and put up two goals and two assists. A Riverview, New Brunswick native, Gill played 212 career QMJHL games from 2020 to 2025 with the Moncton Wildcats and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, piling up 113 points.
He also won the Gilles-Courteau Trophy as QMJHL champions with Moncton in 2025. Tampa Bay selected Gill in the seventh round, 223rd overall, at the 2022 NHL Draft.

Lightning Face A Tough Roster Call With Dominic James Returning
Dominic James is nearing a return for Tampa Bay after recovering from a broken hand, and his availability could come as soon as Thursday against the Minnesota Wild. It is the kind of boost that tends to ripple through a lineup quickly, especially for a team trying to keep its forward group balanced as the season settles in.
To make room, the Lightning had to make a difficult roster decision and exposed center Jansen Harkins on waivers for reassignment to Syracuse. Harkins dressed for the season opener before a lineup rotation pushed him into the press box, and if he clears he would head to the Crunch with a veteran role in the AHL awaiting him. [Read more 🡒]
Lightning Are Getting Early Signs That Could Change This Season
Through the opening stretch of the 2026-27 season, Tampa Bay has gotten a few encouraging looks from players who can shape the tone of the year in very different ways. Ilya Mikheyev has brought scoring touch along with the kind of defensive work that can steady a lineup, while Victor Hedman has been effective in a reduced role even without showing up on the scoresheet. Those are the sort of early indicators that matter for a team trying to sort out its identity before the schedule gets too deep.
Conor Geekie has also given the Lightning a glimpse of what his next step might look like, blending physical play with a timely impact on the result, and Brayden Points return from injury has been just as important for what it says about his overall game. He has already chipped in offensively and, perhaps more importantly, has started to reclaim the defensive value that slipped away last season. For Tampa Bay, the encouraging part is not just who is producing, but how several core pieces are beginning to round into form at the same time. [Read more 🡒]
Lightning Power Play Problems Already Forced An Early Shakeup
Three games into the season, the Lightning are already making adjustments around a power play that has not produced a goal yet. Tampa Bay had Jansen Harkins go on waivers and is expected to send him to Syracuse, a move that opens up some flexibility as the staff reshuffles its special-teams look and searches for a cleaner start with the man advantage.
John Carlson and Charle-Edouard DAstous were on the top power-play unit in practice, a sign the Lightning are willing to experiment early rather than let the drought linger. There is also some defensive personnel movement to monitor, with Calle Lilleberg practicing in a non-contact jersey after getting hurt in the second game of the season, and his return could give Tampa Bay another option once he is back in the mix.
