The New York Rangers kept rolling at home Tuesday night, and this one had a little bit of everything: early offense, a scrap, a solid night from Dylan Garand, and another win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The start belonged to Alexis Lafreniere and Tye Kartye. Kartye did the dirty work early, creating the chance that led to Lafreniere’s sixth goal of the season.
That finish also pushed Lafreniere to a new career high with goals in four straight games. Not long after, the two hooked up again.
A backhand flip pass sent Kartye into space, and Lafreniere finished the breakaway to make it two for the night.
Matt Rempe also wasted no time making his presence felt after re-entering the lineup. He dropped the gloves and added the physical edge the Rangers wanted.
Tampa Bay answered before the period ended when Zemgus Girgensons beat Garand with a strong shot, trimming the lead to 2-1.
The second period settled in a bit more, but the Rangers still found a way to extend the margin. Sean Durzi fired from the blue line, and Will Cuylle got just enough on the redirect to put it in for his third goal of the season. From there, Garand continued to hold firm and made the saves needed to keep a dangerous Lightning group from getting closer.
The third period got tricky right away. Durzi was whistled for a penalty less than 30 seconds in, putting New York in a tough spot with a two-goal cushion. But the penalty kill came through, and the Rangers even turned the defense into an opportunity when Noah Laba was slashed while trying to score.
Neither side scored on the power play, and the Rangers stayed in front 3-1 even as the Lightning pressed later with a 6-on-4 setup after pulling their goalie while already on the man advantage. Garand stood tall through it all, and Mika Zibanejad finally put the game away by winning the puck in the neutral zone and burying the empty-netter for the 4-1 final.
Garand finished with 25 saves, and the Rangers once again got strong work in relief of the injured Igor Shesterkin.
Next up, the Rangers head across the river to face the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Lightnings Rangers Problem Showed Up Again In Another Frustrating Loss
The Lightning ran into the same New York trouble again, leaving Madison Square Garden with a 4-1 loss that felt familiar in all the wrong ways. Tampa Bay never found much traction against the Rangers, who got a pair of goals from Alexis Lafreniere and enough work in net from Dylan Garand to keep the game under control from start to finish.
Zemgus Girgensons provided Tampa Bays only goal, while Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 19 shots in the defeat. For a team that wanted a cleaner response in a matchup that has often been annoying, the result was another reminder that the Rangers continue to be a problem the Lightning have not solved. Lightning Forward Battle Just Got More Crowded Again
The Lightnings forward picture tightened again with Dominic James back in the fold after a short stop in Syracuse. James, who spent most of his rookie season in Tampa Bay and produced 15 points in 43 NHL games, had been working his way back after a hand injury, and his return adds another familiar name to a competition that has already been difficult to sort out.
Now James is back in the mix for one of the open lineup spots, where he figures to be judged alongside Conor Geekie and Jeffrey Viel as the roster picture keeps shifting. Scott Sabourin is also part of that extra-forward group, which means Tampa Bay has a crowded battle on its hands and another decision to make as it tries to settle the bottom of the lineup.
