Lightning Fans Just Got A Dylan Larkin Trade What-If

Red Wings' Dylan Larkin considers trade options, with the Tampa Bay Lightning emerging as a potential destination amid a strategic list of ten possible teams.

Dylan Larkin has widened his trade list, and the Tampa Bay Lightning are now on it.

According to The Athletic’s Max Bultman and Pierre LeBrun, the Detroit Red Wings star center is open to going to 10 teams, including Tampa Bay. The full list, as reported by The Athletic, is the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche.

“The 10 teams for which he would currently accept a trade are the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche, a league source, speaking under condition of anonymity to address negotiations that are not public, confirmed to LeBrun,” The Athletic reported.

The Lightning make plenty of sense as a destination for a player like Larkin. They’ve been one of the NHL’s top teams for years, and they still have several pieces from their 2020 and 2021 Stanley Cup teams. For a player looking to land with a winner, Tampa Bay fits the bill.

On the ice, Larkin would immediately give the Lightning another high-end forward to slot into the mix. He could work alongside wingers such as Nikita Kucherov, Brandon Hagel and Jake Guentzel, giving Tampa Bay even more firepower up front.

Of course, a player like Larkin wouldn’t come cheap. He is a star center with multiple years left on his deal, which means any deal would require a serious return. And because the Red Wings and Lightning are division rivals, Detroit may be even less inclined to send him to Tampa Bay.

Lightning Suddenly Have A Cirelli Problem They Cant Ignore

Anthony Cirellis night ended early against Vegas, and Tampa Bay immediately felt the ripple effect. He left after the second period in the win over the Golden Knights, though it was not clear when the injury happened, and his absence forced the Lightning to shuffle their forward group and lean more heavily on other centers for ice time.

For a team that has tried to keep its lines balanced, losing Cirelli even temporarily creates an obvious wrinkle. Tampa Bay may have to look internally for help, with Dominic James or Scott Sabourin among the forwards the club could activate to cover the opening while it waits for more clarity on Cirellis status. Nikita Kucherov kept adding to his place in Lightning history on a night Tampa Bay needed a statement. He scored a goal and finished with three points as the Lightning took down the Vegas Golden Knights, giving the veteran winger another signature performance in a game with real weight for the team.

The bigger picture for Tampa Bay is what Kucherovs night meant in the record book, even if the milestone itself was only part of the story.
