Lightning Camp Just Put One Prospect Timeline In The Spotlight

The Tampa Bay Lightning kick off their 2026 Development Camp with promising new talent, including recent draft picks and standout prospects aiming to make an impact.

The Lightning’s offseason reset turned toward the future Monday as their 2026 Development Camp opened with player testing and on-ice work. With the NHL Draft done and free agency approaching, Tampa Bay got its first look at a fresh wave of prospects.

A couple of the most notable names in the building are Sam O’Reilly and Jack Pridham, both OHL and Memorial Cup champions whose rights were acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks earlier this month. O’Reilly also made a little history last month, becoming the first player in OHL history to appear in four consecutive championship series.

Lightning GM Julien BriseBois has already seen enough to believe O’Reilly’s game could translate quickly. “The way he plays the game already, even a small sample we got in training camp, tells me he probably won’t need that much time in order to be able to come here and contribute, because he already plays a pro-style game,” BriseBois said at the end of the season.

He added, “If he can adjust to the pace and the physicality, as soon as he’s got that figured out, I think his game is already so textbook in how he plays,” BriseBois added. “He’s got a really mature game that he carries in every night for his junior team or even the national team.”

The camp roster also features the Lightning’s 2026 NHL Draft picks Oleg Kulebiakin, Tomas Kralovic, Morgan Anderberg, Cooper Soller and Max Vilen. Kulebiakin is expected to join the group Wednesday because of travel.

Anthony Thomas-Maroon is also in attendance. He’s the son of former Lightning forward and three-time Stanley Cup champion Pat Maroon.

For Tuesday’s sessions, the Lightning have split the camp into two groups. Group A includes Elliot Arnett, Everett Baldwin, Warren Clark, Carlin Dezainde, Joe Connor, Cooper Soller, Connor Kurth, Jack Pridham, Jayson Shaugabay, Morgan Anderberg, Marco Mignosa and Sam O’Reilly.

Group B is made up of Jan Golicic, Grant Spada, Max Vilen, Tomas Kralovic, Aiden Foster, Anthony Thomas-Maroon, Jacob Mathieu, Klavs Veinbergs, Hagen Burrows and Ethan Czata.

Group B is scheduled to skate at approximately 10:00-10:30 a.m., with Group A set for approximately 12:45-1:15 p.m.

Lightning Suddenly Face A Franchise Defining Kucherov Decision

The start of the NHLs unrestricted free agency window on Wednesday also opens a consequential next step for the Lightning, because it marks the point when players with one year left can begin talking extension. Nikita Kucherov is among the names suddenly in play, and for Tampa Bay this is the sort of decision that can shape not just one season but the franchises direction around its aging core and tight cap picture.

Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton both dug into what a new deal could look like, weighing Kucherovs age, his current salary and the Lightnings room to maneuver. Yaremchuk even floated the idea of a full seven-year term, while Hutton made it clear he still sees Kucherov as a Tampa Bay fixture, which only adds to the intrigue around how the club will approach a player who remains central to everything it wants to do. Lightning Development Camp Is Underway With The Next Wave Already Turning Heads

Development camp is always part classroom, part first look at how the Lightnings next group starts to fit together, and this years sessions have already brought a few familiar faces into the mix. Tampa Bay is working through on-ice drills and public 3-on-3 tournaments with recent draft picks and invitees, while Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov have been seen skating around the group and giving the whole operation a little extra star power.

There is also the usual summer roster housekeeping humming in the background, with recent NHL transactions around the league and a few Tampa Bay details still worth tracking. One of those is the status of Ethan Samson, whose contract situation remains unresolved as the Lightning wait for confirmation, while the camp itself continues to sort out exactly which prospects are fully in the fold and which ones are still part of the picture for later.
