The Syracuse Crunch picked up a point but couldn’t finish the job Friday night, falling 3-2 to the Hartford Wolf Pack in overtime at the Upstate Medical University Arena.
Jakob Pelletier kept his scoring tear rolling with his eighth goal in four games, and Lucas Mercuri added Syracuse’s other goal. The Crunch are now 5-5-2-0 on the season after the extra-time loss.
Hartford got the first punch in the opening period when Justin Nachbaur unloaded a long-range shot from the right point halfway through the frame. Syracuse answered two minutes later, with Nick Abruzzese setting up Pelletier down low. Pelletier finished the play by slipping the puck five-hole as he cut across the crease.
The second period brought another trade of goals. Mercuri put Syracuse ahead at 3:17 after pouncing on a misplayed puck.
Tung left it out front, and Mercuri jumped on it and jammed it home behind the goalie. Hartford pulled level again at 11:58 when Carey Terrance drove a 2-on-1 and fed Justin Dowling across the crease for a finish from the bottom of the left circle.
Neither side could break through in the third, sending the game to overtime. Drew Fortescue ended it 2:59 into the extra session, scoring for Hartford with a wrister from the bottom of the left circle.
Olivier Rodrigue stopped 22 of 25 shots for Syracuse, while Callum Tung made 24 saves on 26 chances for the Wolf Pack. Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.
The Crunch return home to face the Laval Rocket on Wednesday for Military Appreciation Night.
Crunch notes: Jakob Pelletier has eight goals in his last four games, Nick Abruzzese has seven assists in his last four games, and Syracuse is 0-2 in overtime this season.

Lightning Pull Off Road Comeback That Says Plenty About This Surge
The Lightning kept their surge rolling with a 4-3 overtime win in Minnesota, a result that fit the way this stretch has started to define them. Tampa Bay erased a two-goal deficit in the third period and found enough push late to turn a road game that looked headed the wrong way into two points, stretching its point streak to seven games.
Charle-Edouard DAstous helped fuel the rally by tying it in the third, and the comeback set the stage for Nikita Kucherov to finish it in overtime. For a team trying to build momentum on the road, this was the kind of win that says as much about resilience as it does about skill, and it leaves the Lightning with another reminder that their current run has real staying power. Lightning Face A Brutal Road Test In Minnesota
The next stop on Tampa Bays trip brings a familiar kind of challenge, one that has not tended to go well for the Lightning in St. Paul. Minnesota has been a difficult building for them for years, and this matchup arrives with the Wild playing some of their best hockey at home while leaning on a defense that has made life hard on visiting teams. For Tampa Bay, it is another chance to see whether its top-end talent can overcome the kind of road environment that has tripped it up before.
The Lightning also come in needing a steadier effort away from home, where results have been harder to come by this season. Special teams could loom large, with both clubs bringing strong pieces to the ice and key players on each side capable of swinging the game in a hurry. For Tampa Bay, the bigger question is whether it can match Minnesotas pace and structure long enough to leave with points from a rink that has rarely been kind to it. [Read more 🡒]
Lightning Prospects Stay Productive In Another Frustrating Crunch Overtime Loss
The Crunch came away with another point but not the result they wanted in a 3-2 overtime loss to Hartford, a game that fit the frustrating early-season pattern for Syracuse. Olivier Rodrigue made 22 saves, and neither side found anything on the power play, leaving the Lightnings AHL affiliate to settle for a split of the nights momentum instead of a win.
Jakob Pelletier continued to give Syracuse a needed offensive jolt, scoring again as the Crunch tried to keep pace in a tight game that went beyond regulation. Even with the production up front, Syracuse slipped to 5-5-2-0 and now has two overtime losses this season, a reminder that the margins have been thin when the Crunch have been close to finishing off games.
