Todd Bowles Had A Sideline Scare During Bucs' First Win

Todd Bowles endured an unexpected hit during the Buccaneers' triumphant game, but reassured fans of his swift recovery despite the on-field setback.

Todd Bowles had a rough moment on the sideline late in Thursday night’s win over the Cowboys, when cameras caught the Buccaneers head coach down on one knee and clearly in pain during the fourth quarter.

The scene unfolded with 1:04 left and Tampa Bay up 24-16. According to ProFootballTalk, Bowles absorbed a helmet to the stomach while the Buccaneers were celebrating an Alex Anzalone interception and a Bucky Irving run. ESPN’s Jenna Laine later relayed Bowles’ own explanation on X: “He said he caught a celebration helmet to the gut but says he’ll be OK,” she wrote.

Fox Sports’ Greg Auman described it similarly, saying Bowles “took some friendly fire in celebration on the sideline,” according to Pro Football Network. Auman added that the coach was hurting for a moment before being OK soon after. Reports did not identify the player who made contact.

Bowles addressed reporters after the game, though he was not asked about the sideline incident, PFT noted.

The Buccaneers’ win was their first of the season, and it came with rookie Jalon Daniels delivering another solid performance. Daniels went 19 of 25 for 189 yards in his second start, stepping in after Baker Mayfield’s thumb injury.

Bowles also made a bold call earlier in the fourth quarter that nearly backfired. With Tampa Bay leading 24-10, the Bucs went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 1 and came up empty.

Dallas then answered with a 99-yard touchdown drive. Bowles said “we were trying to put the game away,” according to PFT’s Mike Florio.

Florio also noted that cornerback DaRon Bland came close to a pick-six on that series before the ball took a bounce that ended the threat.

Dallas had its own postgame drama, too, as Dak Prescott’s tense moment in the tunnel also drew attention.

Dak Prescott's Postgame Frustration Has Cowboys Fans Debating This Team

The Cowboys left Thursday night with another loss, and the postgame mood around AT&T Stadium turned testy almost immediately. Dallas dropped to 2-3 after falling to the Buccaneers, and what should have been a straightforward reaction to a rough defeat quickly shifted when Dak Prescott took issue with a stadium workers comment about the result being embarrassing.

Prescott made clear he can live with blunt criticism, but he was bothered by the way the exchange unfolded after he noticed the comment. For Tampa Bay, it was the kind of road win that does more than add to the standings, because it also leaves the opponent sorting through frustration, accountability and a little bit of drama long after the final whistle. Todd Bowles Sideline Scare Added Tension To A Much-Needed Bucs Win

The Buccaneers finally got the result they needed, beating the Cowboys 24-16 for their first win of the season behind rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels. It was a much-needed lift for a team that had spent the first month looking for something to stabilize around, and getting to 1-4 at least gives Tampa Bay a little breathing room heading into next weeks matchup with the Steelers.

The win came with a brief scare on the sideline when Todd Bowles was seen down on one knee and appeared to be dealing with discomfort before getting back up and saying he would be okay. For a team already trying to find its footing, even a moment like that can add tension to an afternoon that should have been about relief, and it only underscored how much the Bucs needed a cleaner, calmer path to their first victory. Buccaneers Shut Down Dallas And Sent Dak Into Another Brutal Night

The Buccaneers did what they needed to do Sunday night, holding off Dallas 24-16 in a game that kept the Cowboys chasing from behind and left them with another frustrating finish against a playoff-caliber opponent. Dak Prescott threw for 316 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, and while Dallas made things interesting late, the result still pushed the Cowboys back below .500 and added another layer of pressure to a season already filled with uneven stretches.

The closing moments only sharpened the sting, because the Cowboys had one last shot to extend the night and keep their rally alive. Instead, the comeback came apart in a sequence that fit the way the game had gone for Dallas, and the postgame scene was no kinder as Prescott made his way through the tunnel after an ugly loss.
