Steelers Lose All-Pro Star as Buccaneers Make Bold Signing Move

The Buccaneers have bolstered their special teams by signing All-Pro standout Miles Killebrew, leaving the Steelers searching for a key replacement.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the hunt for a new special teams standout as Miles Killebrew has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This move reunites Killebrew with Danny Smith, the Bucs' new special teams coach, who previously coached him in Pittsburgh.

Killebrew, a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro for his special teams prowess, inked a one-year deal worth about $1.8 million. While he’s technically a safety, Killebrew’s impact is most felt on special teams, where his skills truly shine.

Drafted in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions in 2016 out of Southern Utah, Killebrew spent five seasons in Detroit before joining the Steelers for another five. His 2025 season was cut short due to injury after just five games, but he made his mark with 26 tackles in 2023 and 13 in 2024.

Throughout his career, Killebrew has been a special teams stalwart, playing 71.4% of available special teams snaps compared to just 7.6% on defense. This expertise is precisely what the Buccaneers are banking on, especially with Smith guiding him once again.

As for the Steelers, they’ll need to scout for a new player to fill the void left by Killebrew’s departure.
