JaMarr Chase Still Has One Big Week 5 Hurdle

High-stakes injury updates highlight potential changeups for wide receivers heading into Week 5, with some key players poised for a return to the field.

With Sunday looming, the wide receiver injury picture is starting to come into focus, and several of the biggest names on the slate are trending in different directions.

A handful of receivers are already cleared. Malik Nabers, Chris Olave, Dontayvion Wicks and Mike Evans have all been taken off the injury report and are good to go.

On the other side, DeVonta Smith, Stefon Diggs and Quentin Johnston have already been ruled out for Week 5.

That leaves a long list of questionable receivers, and the most notable situations are the ones involving Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase.

Jefferson missed practice entirely last week before being ruled out with his ankle injury, but this time he put together three limited sessions and landed on the questionable list. The week of work suggests he’s getting closer, and Jefferson sounded upbeat when he spoke to reporters.

“It feels good now. Hopefully, Sunday, being able to rock and roll,” Jefferson said, per Will Ragatz of Bring Me The News.

The Vikings could still decide to be cautious. They’re 4-0, and they have a bye in Week 6, so keeping Jefferson out another week would not be a surprise.

Chase is also trending the right way as he moves through the concussion protocol. He opened the week by sitting out Wednesday, then was limited Thursday before finishing with a full practice Friday.

He still carries the questionable tag, but the final hurdle is clear: approval from an independent neurologist. That step appears likely to happen Saturday, and while nothing is official yet, the expectation is that Chase plays.

Tee Higgins followed a similar path for Cincinnati. He missed Wednesday and Thursday with groin and neck issues, then closed the week with a full practice.

Zac Taylor wouldn’t commit to him being active despite the questionable designation, but that Friday session points in a favorable direction. Higgins is expected to suit up.

Another receiver trending toward playing is Zay Flowers, though his situation is a little different. He has dealt with a hamstring problem for weeks, but now it’s a foot issue that has him on the report.

Flowers was limited all three days and is questionable, though ESPN’s Jamison Hensley said he is “expected to play” in Week 5. If he isn’t removed from the report Saturday, his status could stretch into Sunday, and in that case the final answer might not come until 90 minutes before the 8:20 p.m.

ET kickoff.

Jordan Addison is also questionable after being added to the report this week with a hamstring injury. He sat out Wednesday, then returned for two limited practices, which puts him on a better track heading into Sunday.

Like Jefferson, the Vikings’ 4-0 start and upcoming bye could factor into the decision. Right now, Addison looks like a coin flip.

Terry McLaurin remains in the same uncertain range. He’s questionable again because of the hamstring issue that kept him out in Week 4.

He opened the week with two missed practices before logging a limited session Friday, and Dan Quinn said McLaurin is going in the right direction. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports he will “most likely” be a game-time decision, but the Friday uptick gives him a better than 50/50 shot to play.

DJ Moore’s situation is less encouraging. He missed the first two practices of the week after reaggravating his shoulder injury last week and exiting early.

Moore does not necessarily need to practice in order to play, but a limited session Saturday would be a welcome sign. He is likely headed for questionable, and because the injury has already been reaggravated, the Bills could decide to hold him out even if he could go at less than full strength.

The final report Saturday should tell the story.

Ladd McConkey is in a tougher spot. He did not practice at all this week because of a foot injury and was labeled questionable anyway.

That marks a step back from last week, when he at least got in two limited practices before playing. Based on this week’s workload, McConkey looks more likely to sit than suit up.

CeeDee Lamb’s outlook is much calmer after he left the Cowboys’ embarrassing Week 5 loss to the Buccaneers with a quadriceps injury. The good news is that it appears to be only a bruise, and the expectation is that he’ll be ready for Week 6 after Dallas’ mini bye. As Ian Rapoport reported, “My understanding is that it is a quad bruise,” and “Do not expect this to be a long-term injury.”

Finally, Carnell Tate is dealing with a back issue that landed him on the report as a midweek addition after a strong Week 4. The Titans receiver was limited Thursday and Friday and is questionable, but Robert Saleh told reporters Tate is only dealing with tightness and should be good to go.

Dak Prescott Tunnel Confrontation Keeps Stirring Debate After Bucs Win

After the Buccaneers handled Dallas, the conversation around the game quickly shifted from the scoreboard to the tunnel. Dak Prescott was heckled as he walked off after the loss, with the man shouting that the performance was embarrassing, and Prescott stopped to confront him in the moment. The scene added another layer to a lopsided night and drew plenty of attention because it came as the Cowboys quarterback was already dealing with the weight of a frustrating result.

The debate only grew once a TikTok clip began circulating around the confrontation, feeding speculation about what happened next. Prescott acknowledged the criticism, while a local report identified the heckler as a car service driver rather than a stadium employee, complicating some of the early assumptions about who was involved. For Tampa Bay, it was the sort of postgame flashpoint that kept the win in the headlines for reasons far beyond the Bucs own performance. [Read more 🡒]

Baker Mayfield Is Still Driving The Bucs Through This QB Crisis

Baker Mayfield may be sidelined, but he has not disappeared from the Buccaneers quarterback room. With Mayfield out because of injury, Tampa Bay has handed the offense to Jalon Daniels, and the rookie has leaned on the veterans steady hand as he settles into a much bigger role than anyone expected this early in the season.

Daniels has said Mayfield has helped him get ready for games in ways that go beyond a quick tip or two, with support in practice, in film study and on the sideline. That kind of presence matters even more for a young quarterback who was thrust into the starting job, and it was part of the backdrop before Tampa Bay picked up its first win of the season in Dallas. Bucs Rookie Gives Fans One More Reason To Love Beating Dallas

The Buccaneers Thursday night win over Dallas gave Tampa Bay another satisfying layer to enjoy after the final whistle, and rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter made sure fans noticed. Trotter, whose football bloodlines run deep as the son of former Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Sr. and the brother of Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., shared his own postgame moment from the victory, leaning into the kind of swagger that follows a surprise win over a marquee opponent.

On social media, Trotter posted photos and a video from the game, including a tackle of Cowboys running back Javonte Williams, and capped it with a pointed nod at Dallas. It was the sort of rookie flex that lands well in the aftermath of a big home crowd win, especially when the opponent is the Cowboys, and it added one more talking point to a night Tampa Bay had already turned firmly in its favor.
