Jaguars Snag Key Coach From Buccaneers in Bold Offseason Move

Liam Coen is reshaping the Jaguars offensive staff with a familiar face from Tampa, signaling big plans-and bigger expectations-for his first year at the helm.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been making headlines this week for the coaches they’ve brought in-but now, they’re losing one, and it’s a departure that carries a little more weight than your average offseason shuffle.

Brian Picucci, who served as the Bucs’ offensive line coach, is heading to Jacksonville to take on a new role with the Jaguars as their run game coordinator. It’s a move that reunites him with Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, and it’s not just a friendly reunion-it’s a strategic one.

Picucci and Coen worked together in Tampa Bay during the 2024 season, when the Bucs offense quietly turned into one of the league’s most productive units. That group finished third in total yards, fourth in points scored, and fourth in rushing-numbers that don’t happen by accident. Picucci played a meaningful part in that success, particularly in how the offensive line helped open up the run game and keep things balanced.

Now, he’ll be tasked with bringing that same energy to Jacksonville, where he’ll work closely with Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten. That’s a backfield with plenty of upside, and Picucci’s experience could be exactly what the Jaguars need to unlock more consistency on the ground.

From Tampa’s perspective, this isn’t exactly a shocker. The Bucs just hired Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator, and with any new OC comes the likelihood of staff turnover.

Robinson will want to build out his own team, and that often means parting ways with holdovers from the previous regime. Picucci’s exit feels more like the natural byproduct of that process than anything else.

Still, this isn’t a loss that goes unnoticed. While the Bucs’ offensive line had its struggles last season-especially in pass protection for Baker Mayfield-context matters.

Injuries hit the unit hard. Cody Mauch and Luke Goedeke both missed time, and All-Pro tackle Tristan Wirfs didn’t suit up for the early part of the year.

Considering those setbacks, the line held up better than it probably should have, and Picucci deserves credit for keeping things afloat amid the chaos.

His departure also adds another layer to the ongoing connection between Coen and the Buccaneers. This is the second straight offseason where Coen has dipped into Tampa’s coaching pool, and it raises the question of whether more movement could be coming. Is this just a one-off hire, or are we seeing the beginning of a broader trend?

For now, the Bucs will continue to build out Robinson’s staff, and Jacksonville gets a coach who knows how to get results in the run game. It’s a move that makes sense for both sides-but depending on how things shake out, it could end up being one we look back on as more than just a footnote in the coaching carousel.
