Eagles Meet Again With Former Bucs Coach for Key OC Decision

The Eagles appear to be zeroing in on their next offensive coordinator, with Josh Grizzard emerging as a serious contender after a second interview.

The Philadelphia Eagles are deep into their search for a new offensive coordinator, and one name is starting to separate from the pack. Josh Grizzard, the former Buccaneers OC, completed a second interview with the team on Wednesday-this time in person, in Philadelphia. That’s a strong indicator he’s firmly in the mix for the job.

Grizzard is no stranger to the grind. At 35, he’s already logged time at both the college and pro levels, starting out at Yale and Duke before jumping to the NFL in 2017 with the Dolphins.

He worked his way up from offensive quality control to wide receivers coach, and eventually landed in Tampa Bay in 2024 as the passing game coordinator. Just a year later, he was promoted to offensive coordinator-a quick rise that speaks to how he’s viewed inside league circles.

While his lone season as OC in Tampa didn’t light up the scoreboard, it showed enough to keep teams interested. The Bucs finished 18th in scoring and 21st in total offense, with both the run and pass games ranking in the bottom half of the league. Not eye-popping numbers, but considering the transitional state of Tampa’s offense, there's more to the story than just the rankings.

Grizzard’s offensive philosophy is still developing, but what stands out is his adaptability. He’s worked under different head coaches, in different systems, and has experience coaching both receivers and quarterbacks. That kind of versatility is something the Eagles could use as they look to retool their offense heading into next season.

Here’s where the Eagles’ OC search currently stands:

Finalist:

  • Josh Grizzard, former Buccaneers OC (Interviewed twice, including in-person)

Other candidates:

  • Matt Nagy, former Chiefs OC (Interviewed)
  • Zac Robinson, Falcons OC (currently with Buccaneers)
  • Charlie Weis Jr, LSU OC (Withdrawn)
  • Mike Kafka, Giants OC (currently with Lions)
  • Jim Bob Cooter, Colts OC (Interviewed)
  • Bobby Slowik, Dolphins Pass Game Coordinator (currently with Dolphins)
  • Brian Daboll, former Giants HC (currently with Titans)
  • Kliff Kingsbury, former Commanders OC
  • Declan Doyle, Bears OC (Withdrawn)
  • Frank Smith, former Dolphins OC (Interviewed)
  • Jerrod Johnson, Texans QB coach (Scheduled interview)
  • Sean Mannion, Packers QB coach (Interviewed)

It’s a wide-ranging list that includes both seasoned play-callers and rising minds, but Grizzard’s second interview signals real traction. The Eagles are clearly doing their homework, and with Grizzard already getting a face-to-face meeting, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a decision is coming soon.

For a team looking to bounce back and reestablish its offensive identity, the next OC hire is going to be pivotal. Whether it’s Grizzard or another candidate, the Eagles are making sure they get this one right.
