CBS Just Put Baker Mayfield And Tristan Wirfs In The Spotlight

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gear up for the 2026 season, CBS Sports highlights two key offensive players making the top 100 list amidst a mix of emerging talent and seasoned veterans.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into 2026 with a roster that still has plenty to prove, but CBS Sports’ latest top 100 list shows there are at least two players already carrying real league-wide respect.

Pete Prisco released his ranking of the 100 best NFL players entering 2026, and the Buccaneers landed two names on the list. Both came from the offense: Baker Mayfield at No. 80 and Tristan Wirfs at No. 22.

Mayfield’s spot comes after a 2025 season that never quite matched the heights of his big 2024 campaign. Prisco pointed to the injuries around him - and to Mayfield himself - as the reason the quarterback’s year took a step back.

"After a big 2024 season, Mayfield battled through injuries to both himself and several of his offensive teammates in 2025. He wasn't the same player he was the year before. His numbers all came down, but the talent is still there."

That tracks with how the season unfolded. Mayfield opened 2025 looking like an MVP candidate, then finished as one of the league’s most visibly struggling quarterbacks as injuries piled up around him.

Wirfs, meanwhile, was the other Buccaneer to make Prisco’s list, and his ranking came in much higher at No. 22. He missed the first three games with a knee issue, forcing Tampa Bay to reshuffle its offensive line, but once he returned, he was back to doing what he does best.

"He missed the first three games with a knee issue, but returned to play at his usual high standard," Prisco wrote. "He is outstanding in pass protection."

That’s a strong sign for a Tampa Bay team that will head into camp with a healthier outlook up front. Wirfs is expected to be fully ready when training camp opens on July 28, and Mayfield is also set to be healthy as the Bucs get rolling again.

The rest of Tampa Bay’s roster has plenty of fresh faces after free agency and the draft, including young offensive players like Emeka Egbuka, Tez Johnson and Bucky Irving, while veterans such as Antoine Winfield Jr. and Vita Vea are looking to get back to their best form on defense. But for now, the CBS list makes one thing clear: the Buccaneers still have two proven building blocks who belong among the league’s better players.

Tampa Bay will go through training camp before its first preseason game on August 14.

Baker Mayfield Makes High-Profile Ownership Move In Oklahoma City

Baker Mayfield is adding another line to his off-field portfolio, this time in a project that ties him back to a familiar place. The Buccaneers quarterback is joining an ownership group that includes Russell Westbrook and several other notable figures to help launch a professional soccer venture in Oklahoma City, where a new stadium is already rising as part of a broader development plan around the team.

The club is set to begin play in 2028 in the USL Championship, and the early buzz around the project has centered on both the people involved and the scale of the build. Buccaneers Just Got Major Love For A Look Fans Always Defended

Sports Illustrateds Mike Kadlick recently took a swing at ranking all 32 NFL teams by their uniform combinations, and the Buccaneers landed at No. 6. For a franchise whose look has always invited strong opinions, that is a notable bit of national validation, especially for a current set introduced in 2020 that traded the louder design language of the previous era for something cleaner and more classic.

The current mix has given Tampa Bay a more polished identity, from the red home jerseys to the white road look with pewter pants and the Creamsicle-style throwbacks that keep the teams history in the conversation. It is also a reminder of how far the uniforms have come since the 2014-19 designs, which drew plenty of ridicule before the redesign brought the brand back to something fans felt fit the franchise better. Bucs Rookie Just Drew A Comparison No Linebacker Can Ignore

The Buccaneers used the 2026 NFL Draft to add more talent on defense, bringing in Rueben Bain Jr., Keionte Scott and Josiah Trotter as part of a class that could shape the next wave of their roster. Trotter arrives with a familiar football name attached, and the linebacker group around him has already become one of the more interesting subplots of Tampa Bays draft haul.

Josiah Trotter, the son of former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, is drawing plenty of attention for what he might become in the NFL. Former Buccaneers guard Ian Beckles has already put a heavyweight comp on him, and it is the kind of praise that instantly raises the stakes for a young defender trying to carve out his place in Tampa Bay.
