A’Shawn Robinson Brings Size and Experience to the Bucs' Defensive Line
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made a strategic move in free agency, bolstering their defensive line by signing A’Shawn Robinson from the Carolina Panthers. This acquisition comes on the heels of losing Logan Hall to Houston, but Robinson’s arrival promises to fill that gap with both size and experience.
Robinson, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound force, brings a decade of NFL experience to Tampa Bay. Originally a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2016, he has since made stops with the Rams and Giants before contributing to the Panthers’ NFC South title run in 2025. His presence is expected to be a game-changer in Todd Bowles’ 3-4 defensive scheme, where he’ll replace Hall and back up Vita Vea at nose tackle.
Head coach Todd Bowles has been vocal about wanting to add bigger players this offseason, and Robinson fits that bill perfectly. Known for his run-stuffing prowess, Robinson has accumulated 500 tackles and 37 tackles for loss over his career. Last season with the Panthers, he recorded 65 tackles and three tackles for loss, showcasing his ability to disrupt offenses.
While Robinson isn’t primarily known as a pass rusher, he can generate pressure up the middle, having tallied 15 career sacks. His best season came in 2024 with a career-high 5.5 sacks. Additionally, Robinson has demonstrated versatility by breaking up 23 passes and forcing six fumbles, with four recoveries over his career.
At 31, Robinson’s durability is noteworthy; he played all 17 games last season and has missed only one game due to injury in the past three years. His experience and physical presence are expected to fortify the Bucs’ defensive front, aligning with Bowles’ vision for a more robust defense.
