Chris Braswell’s NFL journey has hit another dead end.
The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round pick was waived by the Houston Texans on Tuesday, cutting short what was supposed to be a fresh start in a new city. Houston had given Braswell a shot after adding him to the practice squad before promoting him to the active roster later in September, but that opportunity now appears to be over.
Braswell entered the league with real expectations after Tampa took him 57th overall in 2024 out of Alabama, where he put together a standout college career. The Buccaneers hoped he’d grow into an important piece of their pass rush. Instead, his time in Tampa never really took off.
Over two seasons with the Bucs, Braswell played in all 34 games but never started. He finished with 48 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, five TFLs, and one forced fumble. By the time Tampa made its initial 53-man roster, Braswell was among the cuts after the team added to its defensive front seven in free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.
That meant a quick shift from being viewed as part of the defense’s future to being moved on from just two years later.
Now, at 24 years old, Braswell is back on the market and looking for his third team in just over two seasons. There should still be teams willing to take a chance on a former second-round pick his age, but whoever signs him next will need much more production than he’s shown so far.

Bucs Face A Troubling Week 6 Health Question At The Worst Time
The Buccaneers are entering Week 6 with the sort of injury report nobody wants to see this late in the week, especially with a Steelers matchup looming. Both teams are dealing with a cluster of key health concerns, but Tampa Bays issues are the ones that stand out most because they touch both sides of the ball and come at a time when every practice rep matters.
Baker Mayfield did not practice while still recovering from the dislocated thumb he suffered in Week 3, leaving the offense with an obvious question at quarterback as preparations continue. On the other side of the defense, Antoine Winfield Jr. is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a rib injury, a setback that further complicates the secondary just as the Buccaneers try to steady themselves for a difficult stretch. Tomlin Just Twisted The Knife On Dallas After Bucs Exposed Them
The Cowboys defense has been searching for answers through the first five weeks, and the frustration spilled into a players-only meeting as the group tried to sort out what has gone wrong. For Tampa Bay, which helped expose those issues on the field, it only added another layer to a growing NFC storyline: Dallas is still trying to steady a unit that has not looked like itself, and the pressure is mounting fast.
Mike Tomlin then added to the noise with a blunt take on players-only meetings during a podcast appearance, casting doubt on whether they ever fix much at all. It was the kind of comment that lands harder when a defense is already on edge, and Dallas now heads into its Week 6 matchup with Green Bay needing more than just another conversation to show real progress. Todd Bowles May Have Found A Buccaneers Rookie Who Changes Things
Todd Bowles has spent enough time around young defensive backs to know when one starts trending beyond rookie curiosity, and Keionte Scott appears to have reached that point for the Buccaneers. The fourth-round nickel corner from Miami has fit in quickly, bringing the kind of tackling and effort that coaches notice right away while carving out a real role in Tampa Bays secondary.
Scotts early-season production has given the defense a useful piece in the slot, and the Buccaneers are planning to keep him there as the season moves along. For a team always looking for dependable coverage and sturdier run support from its defensive backs, his growth has become one of the more encouraging developments on the roster. [Read more 🡒]
