Bucs Ink AShawn Robinson for One-Year; What's the Big Plan?

The Buccaneers bolster their defensive line by signing veteran AShawn Robinson to a lucrative one-year agreement, looking to enhance their defensive prowess.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making a significant move by signing former Panthers defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson to a one-year, $10 million fully-guaranteed contract. This addition brings a seasoned presence to the Buccaneers' defensive front.

Robinson, now 30, has had quite the journey in the NFL since being a second-round pick by the Lions in 2016. After completing his rookie contract, he explored free agency and landed with the Los Angeles Rams on a two-year, $17 million deal. His time in LA was marked by solid performances, though it was cut short by a meniscus tear in November, sidelining him for the rest of that season.

In 2022, Robinson tested the market again, signing a one-year contract with the Giants that could reach $8 million. His next move was to the Panthers in 2024, where he inked a three-year, $22.5 million deal. However, his stint in Carolina ended earlier this off-season when he was released.

Last year, Robinson showcased his durability and skill by playing all 17 games for the Panthers. He racked up 65 total tackles, including three for a loss, alongside 2.5 sacks. He also contributed with a fumble recovery and three pass deflections, underlining his ability to impact the game in multiple ways.

With this signing, the Buccaneers are not just adding depth but also a player with proven resilience and versatility. Robinson's experience and talent could be a key factor in bolstering Tampa Bay's defensive strategies for the upcoming season.
