The Bucs got a mixed bag on Wednesday, but the headline is hard to miss: Baker Mayfield was back on the field as a full participant.
Coming off an overtime loss to the Steelers, Tampa Bay suddenly finds itself at the bottom of the NFC South, and the timing couldn’t be better for some reinforcements. The Bucs are heading into two divisional games, and getting Mayfield healthy again would go a long way toward steadying an offense that needs to find its groove.
Mayfield wore a white glove on the affected hand and was seen working through ball-security drills while also throwing plenty during practice. That alone should give Tampa Bay some hope as it tries to reset after Week 6.
There was better news on defense, too, with Antoine Winfield Jr. limited after sitting out Week 5 and Week 6. Winfield is a major piece for Tampa Bay on that side of the ball, and his availability would matter even more with the Bucs set to face Carolina Panthers deep-threat Tetairoa McMillan.
Not everything was trending up, though. Illness swept through the roster, keeping Bucky Irving and Zyon McCollum out of practice on Wednesday.
Calijah Kancey was also dealing with illness and was limited. Riley Dixon and Chase McLaughlin were listed with illness as well, but both were full participants, which suggests the issue may not linger into Week 7.
The biggest setback may be at wide receiver. Emeka Egbuka, who broke out last week with seven catches and a touchdown in the overtime loss, missed practice because of concussion and foot injuries.
That’s a tough blow for an offense that has already struggled to find consistency through the air. If Egbuka can’t clear concussion protocol by the end of the week, Tampa Bay could be back to searching for answers in the passing game.
The offensive line also has a question mark. Right tackle Luke Goedeke sat out Wednesday with a calf injury, and if he can’t go, Justin Skule would be in line to start in his place. The Bucs’ line showed some improvement in Week 6, cutting down from a season-high seven penalties against the Cowboys in Week 5 to just one against Pittsburgh, but losing Goedeke would still be a hit.
There were a few other familiar names on the report. Cody Mauch, Benjamin Morrison, David Sills V, Josiah Trotter and Sean Tucker were full participants.
Christian Rozeboom missed practice with a finger injury. Vita Vea was limited for rest.
For Carolina, Bryce Young was a full participant with a knee issue. A.J. Dillon, Monroe Freeling and Bam Martin-Scott were full, while Chuba Hubbard, Thomas Incoom, Devin Lloyd, Taylor Moton, Jaelan Phillips and Darren Waller were out for rest or injury.

Leonard Fournette Just Turned Up The Heat On Todd Bowles
Leonard Fournettes latest comments added another layer to a season already straining the patience of everyone around the Buccaneers. Speaking on a recent podcast, the former Tampa Bay running back weighed in on Todd Bowles and described a coach whose style, in his view, is more reserved and defense-minded than offense-first, a sharp contrast at a time when the team is trying to steady itself after a 1-5 start.
The bigger jolt came from Fournettes read on where things could be headed next. Even with Tampa Bay still believing there is a path to hang around in the division race, he floated the possibility that Bowles time with the team could be nearing its end, a pointed remark from someone who knows the room and understands how quickly the mood can turn when wins stop coming. Buccaneers Suddenly Face A Vita Vea Debate Fans Wont Ignore
With the Buccaneers off to a 1-5 start and Baker Mayfield missing significant time, the conversation around the roster has shifted fast from chasing the NFC South to figuring out what comes next. Even with the season still in its early stretch, the losses have pushed Tampa Bay into a spot where every veteran on the defense starts to look a little more interesting to outside teams, especially one as proven as Vita Vea.
Vea has long been one of the leagues most difficult interior linemen to deal with, which is why contenders looking for help up front would surely check in if the Bucs made him available. He is under contract through 2027, so any decision on him would not be about a short-term fix, but about whether Tampa Bay is willing to listen as the bigger questions around the direction of the season keep growing. Colts Suddenly Have A Veteran Trade Decision Rams Fans Will Watch
Davante Adams ruptured hamstring has forced the Rams into the market earlier than they probably expected, and the ripple effects are already reaching beyond Los Angeles. With Terry McLaurin unavailable because of a season-ending injury, the Rams are sorting through receiver options and have been linked to familiar names such as Keenan Allen and Quentin Johnston while weighing whether they need to swing for a more established fit.
One of the more intriguing possibilities is Chris Godwin, a player the Rams would clearly have interest in if Tampa Bay were willing to listen. For the Buccaneers, though, the decision is not as simple as shopping a proven veteran, especially with a 1-5 record and the possibility that the NFC South is still there to be chased. That is what makes this situation worth watching, because the Rams need help now, and Tampa Bay has to decide whether convenience, urgency and season outlook all line up. [Read more 🡒]
