The Buccaneers added some needed insurance Saturday, elevating quarterback Easton Stick and running back Josh Williams from the practice squad before Sunday’s Week 6 game against the Steelers.
Both moves give Tampa Bay extra bodies at spots where the injury list has thinned things out. Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com reported that Stick and Williams will be available against Pittsburgh as the Bucs try to patch together depth at quarterback and running back.
Stick’s call-up puts him in line to back up rookie Jalon Daniels, who is set for his third straight start while Baker Mayfield works back from a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. Mayfield missed practice all week and was ruled out Friday.
The veteran quarterback has seen NFL action in six games and has made four starts. In those appearances, Stick has completed 111 of 174 passes for 1,129 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. He also already knows offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, after spending the 2025 season with the Atlanta Falcons.
Williams comes up with Sean Tucker listed as questionable because of a quad injury. Todd Bowles said Friday that Tucker’s status would come down to a pregame workout, which leaves Tampa Bay with some uncertainty in the backfield.
Williams has played one game this season, handling a kickoff return for 47 yards against Cincinnati in Week 1. In three games for Tampa Bay in 2025, he logged four carries for 11 yards and returned five kickoffs for 129 yards.
There’s roster math attached to the moves, too. Stick has hit the regular-season limit of three elevations, so Tampa Bay would have to sign him to the active roster if it wants to use him again this year. Williams has been elevated twice and still has one standard elevation left.
After Sunday’s game, both players will automatically go back to the practice squad. For now, Stick gives the Buccaneers another quarterback behind Daniels, while Williams provides an additional running back option if Tucker can’t go.

Buccaneers Face A Steelers Threat Tampa Bay Fans Should Note
Curt Popejoy of Steelers Wire made it clear that Pittsburghs offensive identity is still very much a work in progress with Aaron Rodgers in the mix, and that makes Sundays matchup worth a closer look for Buccaneers fans. From Tampa Bays side, the biggest concern remains how the run game holds up behind Bucky Irving, because if the Steelers can control those early downs, it can change the whole shape of the afternoon.
Popejoy also pointed to one of the more interesting wrinkles in this meeting: special teams coordinator Danny Smith is now on Tampa Bays sideline after leaving Pittsburgh. His departure has become part of the conversation around the Steelers underwhelming special teams, and it adds another layer to a game that already has a few key matchups to watch. Popejoy leaned toward Pittsburgh in his final score prediction, so the Bucs will need cleaner execution in a hurry if they want to keep that forecast from coming true. [Read more 🡒]
Rueben Bain Jr. Addresses The Slow Start Buccaneers Fans Are Watching
Rueben Bain Jr. finally offered a little public perspective on the start Buccaneers fans have been watching, and it sounded like a young pass rusher trying to stay steady through the early bumps. The first-round pick has dealt with a slow opening stretch, spending time out of the lineup while working through shoulder and groin injuries, and his early production has been limited as he gets back into rhythm.
Even so, Bain said he feels optimistic about where things are heading and was encouraged to be part of Tampa Bays first win of the season. For a defense that counted on him to bring energy off the edge, the bigger picture remains the same: the Bucs need the version of Bain they envisioned when they made him a premium pick, and hes still trying to get there on his own timeline. Buccaneers Face Three Steelers Threats That Could Ruin This Momentum
Fresh off a win over Dallas, the Buccaneers now turn their attention to a Steelers team that brings a different kind of problem to the table. Pittsburgh has a few ways to stress a defense, and Tampa Bay will need to be sharp from the start if it wants to keep the momentum rolling into its next game.
Jaylen Warren gives the Steelers a versatile threat out of the backfield, while T.J. Watt remains the kind of defensive force that can flip a game with one disruptive series. Add Aaron Rodgers to the mix and the margin for error shrinks even further, which is why Tampa Bays game plan against Pittsburgh will matter almost as much as the result itself. [Read more 🡒]
