The Buccaneers’ rough start has already pushed them into a tricky spot, and that’s exactly why Vita Vea is suddenly showing up in trade chatter.
Tampa Bay is sitting at 1-5 through six weeks, with Baker Mayfield missing a lot of time, and the NFC South isn’t exactly running away from them. The Carolina Panthers are only 3-2, but the Buccaneers still face a steep climb if they want to catch back up. If the season keeps going this way, the expectation is that Tampa Bay could become a seller before the trade deadline.
That’s where ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano comes in. When asked for a “sleeper name for the trade deadline” that isn’t getting enough attention, Graziano pointed to “Tampa Bay defensive tackle Vita Vea” as a player to watch.
Vea is 31 years old, and the contract situation around him has already been in the spotlight. There was a standoff this offseason, although the two sides worked out a deal right before the season. He’s now on the books for $23 million in 2027, which means any contender looking for help up front could have reason to at least make the call.
That’s part of why Graziano sees him as a legitimate candidate to move. He called Vea a “sleeper” trade target and said the Buccaneers would be “silly” not to listen if offers start coming in.
There’s also a fit question that makes the idea even more interesting. Vea is a strong run-stuffer, and Graziano specifically mentioned the San Francisco 49ers as a team that would make a lot of sense.
If Tampa Bay does decide to pivot, Vea could bring back solid draft capital from a Super Bowl contender. And if the Buccaneers decide the future is already arriving fast, moving a player like Vea would line up with a bigger reset. Todd Bowles is likely done as the team’s head coach after this season, according to the report, which only adds to the sense that a rebuild could be coming.
For now, Vea remains one of the more intriguing names to watch as the deadline approaches. It would not be a shock if the beloved Buccaneers defensive tackle is wearing a different uniform by the end of the season.

Leonard Fournette Just Turned Up The Heat On Todd Bowles
Leonard Fournettes latest comments added another layer to a season already straining the patience of everyone around the Buccaneers. Speaking on a recent podcast, the former Tampa Bay running back weighed in on Todd Bowles and described a coach whose style, in his view, is more reserved and defense-minded than offense-first, a sharp contrast at a time when the team is trying to steady itself after a 1-5 start.
The bigger jolt came from Fournettes read on where things could be headed next. Even with Tampa Bay still believing there is a path to hang around in the division race, he floated the possibility that Bowles time with the team could be nearing its end, a pointed remark from someone who knows the room and understands how quickly the mood can turn when wins stop coming. Colts Suddenly Have A Veteran Trade Decision Rams Fans Will Watch
Davante Adams ruptured hamstring has forced the Rams into the market earlier than they probably expected, and the ripple effects are already reaching beyond Los Angeles. With Terry McLaurin unavailable because of a season-ending injury, the Rams are sorting through receiver options and have been linked to familiar names such as Keenan Allen and Quentin Johnston while weighing whether they need to swing for a more established fit.
One of the more intriguing possibilities is Chris Godwin, a player the Rams would clearly have interest in if Tampa Bay were willing to listen. For the Buccaneers, though, the decision is not as simple as shopping a proven veteran, especially with a 1-5 record and the possibility that the NFC South is still there to be chased. That is what makes this situation worth watching, because the Rams need help now, and Tampa Bay has to decide whether convenience, urgency and season outlook all line up. [Read more 🡒]
Bucs Face A Massive Week 7 Question With Baker Mayfield Uncertain
Baker Mayfields path back onto the practice field could become one of the Buccaneers biggest storylines of the week as Tampa Bay sorts through its quarterback situation heading into Week 7. Mayfield has been sidelined by a dislocated thumb, and while he could resume practicing this week, head coach Todd Bowles said the team is still evaluating where he is physically before locking in a plan.
For now, the Buccaneers are leaning toward another start for Jalon Daniels, who has been under center for the last three games as Tampa Bay has gone 1-2. Daniels is in line for a fourth straight start if the team sticks to its initial approach, but Mayfields progress will be monitored closely, especially after he had completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 615 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions before the injury.
