The Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed a reset somewhere, and in their 24-16 win over Dak Prescott and the Cowboys, it came right up front.
That’s the encouraging part for a team that opened the 2026 NFL regular season with big expectations for its offensive line. Before the season, Tampa Bay felt that group could be one of the league’s best, especially with Tristan Wirfs in the mix. He’s viewed as the Bucs’ consensus best overall player and arguably the best offensive tackle in the entire league.
The first four games told a different story. The Buccaneers offense never got rolling, and while Baker Mayfield drew most of the heat in the first three losses, the line didn’t give him much help.
Backup quarterback Jalon Daniels didn’t get much better treatment, and the run game struggled as well. Outside of the 89 rushing yards the team managed against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2, Bucky Irving and the rest of the backs had a hard time finding anything.
Against Dallas, though, the picture changed.
It may have been helped by a Cowboys defense that has to be considered the worst in the NFL right now, but Tampa Bay’s offensive line suddenly looked like the group the Buccaneers thought they had. And for the first time this season, that translated into a win.
The line set the tone for a dominant ground performance, clearing the way for Bucky Irving to run wild with 165 rushing yards and a touchdown. Emeka Egbuka also found the end zone on the ground. For Irving, it was a true primetime breakout.
Protection-wise, Daniels had one of his cleanest nights yet. He was sacked just once and took only one QB hit from Dallas.
That stood out even more when compared with the previous week against the Green Bay Packers, when he was hit seven times and sacked three times. And unlike those earlier problems, Tampa Bay couldn’t point to Baker Mayfield running into sacks as an excuse.
With better pockets to work from, Daniels had a much easier time against the Cowboys and turned heads around the NFL with a strong showing as a rookie. If the Buccaneers offensive line keeps playing like this, there should be a lot more good nights ahead for Tampa Bay’s quarterbacks and running backs.

Jalon Daniels Showed The Bucs Something They May Need Soon
Jalon Daniels gave Tampa Bay a useful glimpse of what its offense can look like when the quarterback keeps plays alive and makes the defense account for more than just the first read. Against Dallas, Daniels showed strong situational awareness on his opening drive and added the kind of mobility that can stress a defense in a hurry, while the Buccaneers also got a boost from the play design and in-game adjustments put together by offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
The encouraging part for Tampa Bay is that Daniels did not need the offense to be perfect for it to move. He helped extend drives, found openings downfield and made the Cowboys defend every inch of the field, which is the sort of versatility that can matter when a game tightens up later in the season. The bigger question now is how much of that package the Buccaneers can count on when they need it most. [Read more 🡒]
Baker Mayfield Puts Buccaneers Week 6 Outlook In Serious Doubt
Baker Mayfields push to get back on the field has become one of the biggest storylines around Tampa Bay heading into Week 6. The Buccaneers have spent the past two games without their starting quarterback after he suffered a dislocated thumb, and the original timetable pointed to a longer absence than just a couple of weeks. In his place, undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels has handled the offense and helped deliver Tampa Bay its first win of the season.
The next step is less about desire than clearance, and that leaves the Bucs in a holding pattern as they prepare for Pittsburgh. Mayfield still has to get through the medical process before he can be available Sunday, which keeps the situation fluid even as he works to return sooner than expected. For Tampa Bay, it means the Week 6 plan could hinge on a quarterback question that remains unresolved deep into the buildup. [Read more 🡒]
Bucs Offensive Core Suddenly Carries A Roster Question Fans Can't Ignore
PewterReportTV has added a new wrinkle to the Buccaneers conversation with Bucs Cap Convo, a video series built around salary cap analysis from expert Josh Queipo. In a recent episode, Queipo and Scott Reynolds dug into the kind of roster questions that tend to surface when a team is trying to balance present-day hopes with long-term flexibility, using Tampa Bays situation as the backdrop.
The discussion centered on what kind of return the Buccaneers might be able to get for certain players based on talent, production, salary and years of team control. It also naturally pointed ahead to a possible Week 9 deadline scenario, when the front office could be forced to make hard decisions if the season slips out of playoff contention and the market starts to matter as much as the standings.
