It’s hard not to circle Keyshawn Johnson when looking at Syracuse’s 2026 roster. The Orange brought in a senior linebacker who arrives with real production, a strong résumé, and a chance to make an immediate impact in Year 3 of the Fran Brown era.
Johnson checks in at 6’ 3” and 230 pounds, and he comes to Syracuse from Belle Glade, FL after stops at St. Thomas Aquinas, Grambling St, and UT Martin. He’s listed as a linebacker, but the Orange are expected to use him in a more disruptive role when the situation calls for it.
Last season, Johnson put together a big year at the FCS level. He finished with 13.5 sacks, which ranked third in FCS, along with 20 tackles for loss.
Those numbers earned him FCS All-American honors and OVC-Big South Defensive Player of the Year recognition. Over the course of his college career, he has totaled 22 sacks in 33 games.
That kind of pass-rush production is exactly why Syracuse is paying attention. ESPN pegged Johnson as the newcomer most important to the Orange, and the fit makes sense given what Syracuse needed off the edge last season.
If he can carry that FCS disruption into the ACC, it would give the Orange defense a major lift. He’s expected to line up a lot at DE in passing situations and try to create problems in opposing backfields.
Johnson arrived in Syracuse through the transfer portal. Coming out of high school, he had committed to Grambling State over an offer from Florida Atlantic.
Recruiting services listed him as a three-star JUCO transfer.
