Tristin Hughes Keeps Syracuse in the Mix Despite De-commitment
In a surprising twist, Tristin Hughes, a 2027 four-star athlete, has decided to de-commit from Syracuse football but still plans to visit the Orange officially. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, Hughes is a versatile talent from Rocky River High School in Ohio, known for his prowess as a defensive back, wide receiver, and return specialist.
Hughes announced on his social media that he will visit Syracuse from June 19 to June 21. This decision comes even after he reopened his recruiting process on February 19, hinting that Syracuse remains a strong contender despite other programs vying for his commitment.
His visit to Syracuse is part of a busy schedule that includes stops at Louisville from May 29 to May 31, Kentucky from June 5 to June 7, and Purdue from June 12 to June 14. Hughes initially committed to Syracuse in September 2024, but recent developments have seen him reconsider his options.
Syracuse coaches Perry Eliano and Dre Kates recently visited Hughes at home, emphasizing their continued interest. The Orange's 2027 recruiting class is ranked in the top 15 nationally, showcasing their strong recruiting efforts.
Hughes, who helped Rocky River achieve an 11-3 record and reach the championship game of the OHSAA Region 10 playoffs in 2025, is a highly sought-after prospect. With nearly 20 scholarship offers from schools like Pittsburgh, UConn, Louisville, and others, his decision will be closely watched.
Currently, Hughes ranks in the top 400 nationally according to industry rankings, with Rivals placing him at No. 248 overall, No. 29 at safety, and No. 12 in Ohio. Despite recent de-commitments, including Hughes and two other prospects, Syracuse's 2027 class remains strong, ranked No. 11 by the 247Sports Composite.
Joining Hughes on the Syracuse visit will be Khalil Taylor, a 2027 All-American wide receiver and return specialist from Pine-Richland High School in Pennsylvania. Taylor, another four-star talent, adds intrigue to what promises to be a pivotal recruiting period for the Orange.
