Syracuse Targets Georgia Commit in Bold Move for Elite Tight End

Syracuses new head coach is leveraging SEC ties in an ambitious pursuit of a nationally ranked Georgia commit.

Fran Brown isn’t wasting any time making waves on the recruiting trail. The former Georgia defensive backs coach, now leading the charge at Syracuse, has his eyes set on flipping a high-upside prospect from his old stomping grounds.

The target? Asa Wall - a 2028 four-star tight end and linebacker out of John Milledge Academy in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Wall is currently verbally committed to Georgia, but his recruitment is heating up fast. Syracuse extended an offer in recent days, and they’re not alone. Since the turn of the year, Wall has picked up new offers from programs like Florida International, Florida, and SMU, adding to an already impressive list that includes Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

Wall isn’t just another name in the recruiting database - he’s a game-changer on both sides of the ball. At 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds, he put together a monster sophomore season that helped lead John Milledge Academy to a 12-1 record and the GIAA Class AAA state championship.

Let’s talk numbers. Offensively, Wall was a nightmare for opposing defenses.

He racked up 656 rushing yards and punched in 15 touchdowns on the ground. Through the air, he added 944 receiving yards and 10 more scores.

That’s 1,600 total yards and 25 touchdowns - as a sophomore. Those are grown-man numbers from a kid who still has two full seasons of high school football ahead of him.

But Wall wasn’t just dominating on offense. Defensively, he was just as impactful, logging 96 total tackles (54 solo), 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, a couple of quarterback hurries, and two pass breakups. He was everywhere - sideline to sideline, in the backfield, in coverage - and he made it count.

His efforts didn’t go unnoticed. Wall was named the GIAA Class AAA state co-player of the year, earned a spot on the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) All-State team, and took home GACA/GIAA All-State Offensive Player of the Year honors. That kind of two-way dominance is rare, and it’s exactly why programs across the country are lining up to get in the mix.

Recruiting rankings reflect that buzz. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Wall sits at No. 218 nationally, No. 9 among tight ends, and No. 24 in the state of Georgia. Rivals’ own rankings are even higher on him - No. 98 overall, No. 5 at tight end, and No. 14 in Georgia.

For Syracuse, this is more than just a recruiting battle - it’s a statement of intent. Brown is showing he’s ready to go toe-to-toe with the SEC for elite talent, and he’s not afraid to dip into Georgia’s backyard to do it.

Wall’s recruitment is far from over, and flipping a verbal commit from a program like Georgia is no small task. But if Brown and the Orange can pull it off, it could be a defining early win in this new era for Syracuse football.

Keep an eye on this one. Asa Wall is a name you’re going to hear a lot more of in the coming years - and Syracuse is doing everything it can to make sure you hear it in Orange.
