Syracuse May Land Key Siena Players With McNamara

As new Syracuse head coach Gerry McNamara eyes talent transitions, key Siena players and recruits may be poised to follow him to his new post.

Syracuse basketball fans, get ready for some potential roster shake-ups as new head coach Gerry McNamara takes the helm. It's not uncommon for a coach to bring some familiar faces along, and we might see a few Siena players making their way to the Orange for the 2026-27 season.

With the transfer portal set to open from April 7 to April 21, McNamara has been meeting with current Syracuse players to discuss retention. There's also a special 15-day window for transfers when a new head coach is announced, giving players a chance to make their move.

Let's take a look at some Siena standouts who could be donning Syracuse jerseys soon:

Gavin Doty, Sophomore Guard

Hailing from nearby Fulton, N.Y., the 6-foot-5, 190-pound Doty is expected to enter the transfer portal. Doty has already expressed his commitment to playing under McNamara throughout his career. Last season, he put up impressive numbers: 18.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Francis Folefac, Freshman Forward

The 6-foot-7, 245-pound Folefac from Lanham, Md., made a strong impression in his freshman year at Siena, competing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). He averaged 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. While there's no confirmation of his transfer intentions yet, he's certainly one to watch.

Ryan Moesch, 2026 Four-Star Point Guard

Moesch, a 6-foot, 170-pound point guard, signed with Siena last November and is a top-150 national prospect. The Central New York native recently received his release to reopen his recruitment, making him a strong candidate for Syracuse.

Keep an eye on these additional Siena players:

  • Reid Ducharme, Redshirt Sophomore Wing: Previously recruited by Syracuse, Ducharme plans to enter the transfer portal.
  • Tajae Jones, Sophomore Forward: With ties to Syracuse freshman Kiyan Anthony from their time at Long Island Lutheran High School, Jones is entering the portal with three years of eligibility left.

As the transfer portal action heats up, Syracuse fans could see some exciting new talent heading their way. Stay tuned as McNamara shapes his roster for the upcoming season.
