Syracuse basketball’s push for 2027 four-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur has gotten a lot tougher.
The Orange had already been in the mix after Nur took an official visit to campus in late August, a trip that Inside the Loud House has reported went well. SU assistant coach Ben Lee was also present for at least one open gym at CIA Bella Vista after the fall recruiting period opened on September 9. But the picture changed once Syracuse landed a verbal pledge from 2027 five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko, a Bronx native who committed last Friday.
That commitment matters because Kamissoko and Nur overlap in role and size. Kamissoko is listed at 6-foot-8 and 180 pounds, while Nur checks in at 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds. Syracuse also already has a verbal commitment from another 2027 wing, three-star prospect Jack Donohue, an Albany native who is a senior at The Newman School in Boston.
Nur, meanwhile, is heading into his senior year at CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, the program that won the high school national championship in the 2025-26 season. He has also taken official visits to Florida State, Ole Miss, SMU and Purdue. At this point, several national analysts believe Florida State and Ole Miss are the programs best positioned in his recruitment, and Inside the Loud House is not aware of any commitment timeline.
Nur will also play next season with the City Reapers in Overtime Elite, the Atlanta-based league. OTE held its annual Pro Day earlier this week, and Syracuse’s staff was not there for the event.
For Syracuse, there’s another layer here: the Orange’s current roster is already at the NCAA maximum of 15 players, and under the new 5-for-5 eligibility model, every player on it could technically return for 2026-27.

Syracuse Comes Out Of Bye Facing Pressure To Fix Its Biggest Issues
Syracuse comes out of its bye week carrying the kind of early-season pressure that can shape a fall. The Orange head to Pratt & Whitney Stadium to face UConn with a 1-2 record, and the break gave the staff time to reset around the issues that have already defined the start: too many penalties, too many turnovers, and too little offensive rhythm to let the defense breathe.
The defensive side has given Syracuse a foundation to work with, but the offense has to do more than flash in stretches. Against UConn, the Orange need a more balanced approach and cleaner execution to start turning possessions into momentum, because another uneven performance would only deepen the questions that have followed them into this game. Syracuse Needs More Than A Win Against UConn This Weekend
Syracuse heads to East Hartford this weekend for a noon kickoff against UConn on CBS Sports Network, and the matchup has already drawn plenty of analyst attention. The discussion has centered on where each team might have an edge, which weaknesses could be exposed and which players could swing the game, all of it building toward a game that feels more meaningful than a typical nonconference date.
For Syracuse, the interest goes beyond simply getting back in the win column. The Orange need a performance that looks stable, convincing and useful as the season keeps moving, and that is why the predictions around this one matter so much. A victory would help, but what Syracuse shows in the process may end up telling the bigger story. [Read more 🡒]
Andre Szmyt Just Gave Syracuse Fans Another Reason To Celebrate
Andre Szmyt keeps finding ways to matter in big moments, and Thursday night was the latest example. The former Syracuse kicker drilled a 56-yard field goal late as the Cleveland Browns edged the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-24, on Thursday Night Football, a finish that helped push Cleveland to 3-1 and into first place in the AFC North.
For Syracuse fans, it was another reminder that Szmyt has carried his old clutch reputation into the pros. He has been perfect on field goals and extra points through four games this season, and the Browns are already leaning on him in the kind of close, tense games that tend to define a division race.
