Syracuse just added a key piece to its future with a commitment from Sa’Nir Brooks, a versatile 2027 athlete out of national powerhouse St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. Brooks announced his decision Saturday, giving the Orange another high-upside prospect from a program that’s built a reputation for producing top-tier talent.
At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, Brooks brings a dynamic skill set to the table. He’s a two-way standout for St.
Frances, lining up at both running back and strong safety. That kind of versatility is what makes him such an intriguing addition to Syracuse’s 2027 recruiting class.
He’s currently rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports, ranked as the No. 21 running back in the country and No. 437 overall.
Brooks had no shortage of options at the next level. He held offers from several Power Four programs, including Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh - the latter being his hometown school. But it was Syracuse that ultimately won him over.
“Thank you Coach Fran and the Syracuse coaching staff for the opportunity to continue playing the game I love most,” Brooks shared on social media. “I want to thank my parents and family for supporting me, I also wanna thank all my coaches who played a major part in my growth and development.”
For Syracuse, this commitment is more than just a win on the recruiting trail - it’s a sign that the Orange are starting to build a real pipeline into one of the most talent-rich programs in the country. St.
Frances has long been a national name in high school football, and Syracuse is beginning to establish a foothold there. Brooks is the second player the Orange have landed from St.
Frances in the last two cycles, following three-star linebacker Maurice Medley in the Class of 2026.
The Orange aren’t stopping there. They’ve already extended offers to a trio of other St.
Frances standouts - tight end Mike Nnabuife, quarterback Elijah Butler, and defensive lineman Maddox Fackel, who visited campus last spring. If Syracuse can continue to build relationships at St.
Frances, it could pay major dividends down the line.
Brooks’ commitment also comes at an interesting time for the Orange, following the departure of former assistant running backs coach Devin Redd, a Baltimore native who had ties to the area. Even with that change, the staff has kept momentum going in the DMV region - a key recruiting ground for programs up and down the East Coast.
With Brooks in the fold, Syracuse now has 10 commitments in its 2027 class, which is shaping up to be one of the strongest early hauls in the country. As of Saturday - the program’s Junior Day - the Orange’s class ranks fifth nationally, trailing only Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Notre Dame.
Of those 10 commits, nine are rated as three-star prospects, while offensive lineman Edwin Guzman out of Erie, Pennsylvania, remains unranked. Still, it’s clear the Orange are laying a solid foundation for the future, and Brooks is a big part of that.
He’s the kind of player who fits the mold of what Syracuse is building - tough, versatile, and unafraid of competition. And if the Orange continue to tap into talent-rich programs like St. Frances, they’ll be in position to keep climbing the national ranks.
