Syracuse just landed a big body-literally and figuratively-for its 2027 recruiting class. Edwin Guzman, a towering 6-foot-8, 310-pound offensive lineman out of Erie High School in Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to the Orange on Friday. And while Syracuse was the only school to officially offer him, interest had been bubbling from a handful of others, including Rutgers, Akron, Toledo, Kent State, Charlotte, and more.
Guzman’s commitment is notable for a few reasons, not the least of which is his size and upside. He’s already built like a Power Five tackle, and his on-field résumé is catching up to that physical profile. He earned All-Region 7 All-Star honors after a strong 2024 season and turned heads at the Aaron Donald Top 50 camp last summer-a showcase that tends to highlight rising talent in the trenches.
Syracuse got in early with Guzman, extending an offer back in March 2025. Even with a coaching change on the offensive line, the Orange never took their foot off the gas.
That consistency paid off, as the staff made it clear Guzman was a priority regardless of who was coaching his position. That kind of continuity matters to recruits, and in this case, it helped seal the deal.
This marks the first pledge of what could be a busy weekend for the Orange. Syracuse is hosting a wave of prospects from the 2027 and 2028 classes over the next two weekends as part of their junior day events. And if the buzz around the program is any indication, Guzman might not be the last name added to the commit list in the coming days.
With Guzman on board, Syracuse’s 2027 class now stands at nine commits and holds the No. 6 national ranking according to 247Sports. That’s no small feat for a program looking to build long-term success through strong recruiting foundations.
Here’s how the class is shaping up so far:
- Tank White, a versatile athlete from Melbourne Central Catholic in Florida
- Justin Dixon, a quarterback out of Concordia Prep in Maryland
- Travis Miles, a defensive back from Hillside High in New Jersey
- Stanley Montgomery, a defensive lineman from Archbishop Ryan in Pennsylvania
- Davion Crumitie, an athlete out of Rickards High in Florida
- Tristin Hughes, a defensive back from Rocky River High in Ohio
- Connor Long, from Old Bridge High School in New Jersey
- Marcus Small, another Florida product from First Coast High
- And now, Edwin Guzman, the latest addition from Erie High in Pennsylvania
This group is shaping up to be one of Syracuse’s most promising in recent memory. With a blend of size, speed, and positional versatility, the Orange are building something that could have staying power. Guzman’s commitment might not make national headlines just yet, but for those paying attention, it’s another sign that Syracuse is stacking the kind of talent that wins games down the line.
