Syracuse basketball’s 2027 class got a closer look from one of its early pledges this weekend, as Jack Donohue made his official visit to campus.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound wing from Albany, N.Y., spent Friday and Saturday around the Orange program after verbally committing to Syracuse in early August, following an unofficial visit in late June. Donohue and his family, according to Inside the Loud House, had a terrific time on the trip.
He was at a Syracuse basketball practice, spent time with the team and also took in Syracuse football’s thrilling upset of No. 19 SMU on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Donohue has become one of the more intriguing names in the 2027 cycle. He is a three-star prospect and, by the account of multiple analysts, scouts and coaches who have spoken to Inside the Loud House since his commitment, he’s viewed as an elite shooter with the kind of upside that could push him into four-star territory if he has a strong senior season at The Newman School in Boston.
His path has also been shaped by a major setback. Donohue missed about 10 months last year after undergoing open-heart surgery, making his rise back onto the recruiting radar even more notable.
The praise around him goes beyond his game. Donohue was described as “just about the nicest young man you'll ever meet,” and the report also noted that he “bleeds Orange.” There’s clearly a personal connection here, too: the piece says Donohue’s parents are thrilled that he’ll play for head coach Gerry McNamara and the Orange, and it mentions the writer has gotten to know his father, Darren Donohue, in recent months.
Syracuse’s 2027 class currently includes two verbal commits. Donohue is joined by five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko, the 6-foot-8, 180-pound Bronx native who pledged to SU in late September and is now at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio. That two-man group is already inside the top 25 nationally, according to 247Sports.
There’s been steady contact between Syracuse and Donohue throughout the fall recruiting period, too. Assistant coach Arinze Onuaku was in to see him at an open gym at Newman, and before Donohue’s Syracuse commitment, McNamara had offered him a scholarship while still at Siena. After SU named McNamara its next head coach in March, several Siena assistants, including Ben Lee, followed him to Syracuse.
Donohue first revealed on June 25 that Syracuse had offered him a scholarship, and a little more than a month later, he was in the Orange’s 2027 class. Now, with his official visit in the books, Syracuse will keep tracking his senior year at Newman, a program the report describes as a powerhouse on both the Northeast and national stages.

Syracuse's UNC Win Looks Even Bigger After Another Belichick Collapse
Syracuses win over North Carolina is looking better by the week, not just because the Orange got the result, but because the Tar Heels keep finding new ways to let games slip away. Bill Belichicks team has been more competitive in 2026 than it was a year ago, and at 4-4 there is at least some evidence of progress, with quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. giving UNC enough production to stay in games.
Still, the pattern is hard to ignore. North Carolina has now dropped multiple games after taking fourth-quarter leads, including recent losses to Clemson, Syracuse and Miami, and turnovers have been a big part of the problem in those tight finishes. For Syracuse, that makes the win feel less like a one-off and more like a result that exposed a team still struggling to close the door when it matters most. [Read more 🡒]
Gerry McNamaras Syracuse Debut Now Carries A Painful Personal Weight
Gerard McNamara, the father of Syracuse mens basketball coach Gerry McNamara, has died at 78 after a battle with cancer, adding a deeply personal layer to what was already shaping up to be a significant moment for the Orange. He had beaten cancer twice before and was a familiar presence at his sons collegiate games, a steady figure through every stop in Gerry McNamaras basketball life.
Now, with Syracuse set to open the season and McNamara preparing to coach his first game since taking over the program, the occasion carries a different kind of weight. The debut was always going to matter as the start of a new era, but it will now come with the memory of a father who saw nearly all of it from the stands. [Read more 🡒]
Syracuse Defense Just Sent A Message The Rest Of The Season Needed
Chris DAppolonias hat said plenty before Syracuse even took the field, and the Orange backed up that hard-edged mindset in a 30-27 upset of No. 19 SMU. The message has been building around defensive coordinator Vince Kehres, who arrived this season with a clear identity, and Syracuses defense looked fully bought in while disrupting the Mustangs with sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.
Tunmise Adeleye was among the players who helped swing the game, as Syracuse consistently made life uncomfortable for SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings. For a team looking to establish itself in the weeks ahead, this was the kind of defensive performance that can change how opponents prepare and how the Orange see themselves moving forward.
