Syracuse’s 2027 recruiting board took another hit in the ACC on Monday when Kager Knueppel, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound four-star forward from Wisconsin, announced he has verbally committed to Duke.
Knueppel made the news public on X, and the move sends him to the same conference as Syracuse, which had shown interest in him under both the current and previous Orange staffs. He is also the younger brother of former Blue Devils star Kon Knueppel, who was one of the best rookies in the NBA this past season.
The Orange had been in the mix for Kager Knueppel for a while. After the 2027 contact period opened on June 15 of last year, he heard from Syracuse. More recently, during a live period this spring on the AAU circuit, Syracuse’s new staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara watched him with the 17U team for Milwaukee-based Team Herro in Nike’s EYBL league.
Knueppel is ranked as high as No. 28 nationally in the 2027 class by 247Sports. At Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, he put together a perfect junior season in 2025-26, leading the school to a 30-0 record and a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 state championship.
Syracuse has clearly been pushing harder in the 2027 and 2028 classes lately, and Knueppel was one of the names on the board. The Orange’s recruiting targets in 2027 include four-star shooting guard RJ Moore of Ambassador Christian School in Huntersville, N.C.; five-star point guard Nasir Anderson of Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five-star center Lewis Uvwo of Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five-star point guard King Gibson of Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio; four-star center Caleb Ourigou of the Atlanta-based league Overtime Elite; four-star point guard J’Lon Lyons of Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md.; five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko of Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y.; and wing Jack Donohue of The Newman School in Boston.
