Syracuse is still very much in the mix for one of the best guards in the 2027 class.
King Gibson, the 6-foot-6, 185-pound combo guard from Greensboro, N.C., has trimmed his list to 10 schools, and the Orange made the cut. Dushawn London of 247Sports reported that Gibson’s top 10 includes Syracuse, Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisville, LSU, Michigan and Providence.
Gibson has also lined up five official visits, according to national analyst Sam Kayser. Those trips are set for Arkansas, Baylor, Louisville, LSU and UConn, while Syracuse is still in position to potentially land one as well, Inside the Loud House has learned.
Syracuse offered Gibson in mid-May after first-year head coach Gerry McNamara took over the program, and Gibson said as much on social media. The Orange had already been involved before that, too, with contact coming from the previous staff under Adrian Autry once the 2027 contact period opened on June 15, 2025.
The latest development comes as Gibson prepares for his senior season at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio. The powerhouse program finished 29-5 in 2025-26 and earned a spot in the season-ending Chipotle Nationals in Fishers, Ind. Spire is coached by Kevin Boyle, who won two high school national titles at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla.
Spire is expected to be in the national-title conversation again in 2026-27, and Gibson will be part of a loaded roster. Syracuse 2027 priority target Moussa Kamissoko, a five-star wing/small forward, transferred to Spire from Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., and is scheduled to take an official visit to Syracuse from September 3 to September 4. Rochester native David Johnson, a 2029 five-star wing whose first scholarship offer came from Syracuse last August, also transferred to Spire for the upcoming season.
Gibson’s summer production backed up the buzz. Playing for Team United’s 17U squad in Nike’s EYBL league, he averaged 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from three and 73.1 percent at the line.
His highest national ranking comes from Rivals, which has him at No. 5 overall in the 2027 class and No. 1 among combo guards. Dushawn London listed him as the No. 16 overall prospect in the class.
