The basketball recruiting scene is buzzing with the name Michai White, a five-star point guard who's making waves on the court and drawing serious attention from top college programs. Since the 2028 contact period kicked off on June 15, Syracuse's new head coach, Gerry McNamara, and his team have been quick to reach out to White, among other promising prospects entering their junior year of high school.
White, standing at 6-foot-1, has caught the eye of several prestigious programs. Besides Syracuse, he's been in contact with the likes of Houston, Providence, Indiana, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Louisville, and Notre Dame, just to name a few. His appeal is clear, and his list of suitors is growing longer by the day.
A standout player during the 2025-26 season at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., White shone brightly in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic play. Averaging nearly 13 points per game, along with solid stats in rebounds, assists, and steals, he demonstrated a well-rounded game. His shooting percentages - 41% from the field, 31% from three-point range, and 74% from the free-throw line - underscore his scoring ability.
This spring and summer, White has been turning heads on the AAU circuit with the City Rocks' 17U team in Nike's EYBL league. Playing up a division, he's currently ranked fifth in scoring in the 17U division, averaging an impressive 21.2 points per game. His contributions extend beyond scoring, with averages of 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest, and he's improved his shooting efficiency to 46% from the field.
The recruiting services have taken notice, with White's full scholarship offer sheet including powerhouse programs such as Auburn, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, and more. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as a five-star recruit, placing him 22nd overall and third among point guards in the 2028 class. ESPN is equally impressed, ranking him 17th nationally.
White's journey through the recruiting landscape is just beginning, and his unofficial visit to Syracuse's Elite Camp last August suggests a keen interest in the Orange. As Coach McNamara and his team continue to evaluate their options, the question remains whether they'll extend an offer to this dynamic floor general. With his talent and potential, Michai White is certainly a name to watch as the recruiting season unfolds.

Syracuse Just Entered An Early Recruiting Battle Fans Need To Watch
Syracuses first-year staff under Gerry McNamara is already working the kind of early board that can shape a class years down the line, and one of the latest names to surface is a rising 2028 wing from The Phelps School in Pennsylvania. The Orange reached out as the contact period opened for high school juniors, putting themselves in the mix for a player who has quickly drawn attention from a range of high-major programs.
The competition is going to be real here, and that is what makes the pursuit worth watching. Recruiting analysts already view him as one of the better prospects in the country for his class, and Syracuse is now trying to establish itself early against programs with plenty of pull of their own. In a cycle this far out, the schools that get in first can matter, but they still have a lot of work to do from here. [Read more 🡒]
Another Local Syracuse Commit Is Fueling Fran Browns 2027 Momentum
Noah Collins-Howards June official visit to Syracuse gave the Orange another reminder of why the local recruiting pipeline has been such a useful part of Fran Browns push. The three-star wide receiver from Rush-Henrietta High School had already committed back in March, but the trip let him spend more time around the staff and future teammates and keep building on the connection that helped bring one of New Yorks top prospects into the fold.
Collins-Howard is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the state and is part of a 2027 class that keeps getting bigger by the week. Syracuse has now landed 22 commitments, and the Orange have been especially active in June as Brown continues to stack pledges and reinforce the culture that has made local recruits comfortable staying close to home. Syracuses New 7-Footer Could Change Everything On Defense
Abdramane Sibys path to Syracuse has already been unusual before he ever steps into a college game. The 7-foot prospect from Mali went from there to Italy at 13, later spent time in Serbia, and now arrives in Central New York with the kind of frame and defensive profile that can change how a team plays around the rim.
Syracuse coach Gerry McNamara has made it clear the Orange needed more shot-altering ability, and Siby fits that need with his length, athleticism and defensive instincts. Scout Jonathan Givony has also been high on the pickup, and the next question for Syracuse is how quickly Siby can turn that promise into a reliable interior presence. [Read more 🡒]
