Syracuse basketball has locked in an official visit with one of its biggest 2027 targets.
J'Lon Lyons, a four-star point guard and rising senior from Clinton, Maryland, will be on campus from September 11 to September 13, according to national analyst Sam Kayser. Lyons, who checks in at 6-foot-3, is a top-50 national prospect in his class and has already said Syracuse is one of the schools he wants to visit officially.
Lyons has become a major name on the Orange board, and the new staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara is clearly treating him that way. McNamara and several Syracuse assistants were on hand this past weekend to watch Lyons at DMV Live in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he delivered a strong showing during a scholastic live period.
There was also a notable scene at the event: McNamara was seated next to former Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry, who is now an assistant at Virginia. The Cavaliers are also pursuing Lyons.
Lyons stars for Clinton Grace Christian School and plays for Team Takeover’s 17U squad in Nike’s EYBL league. Syracuse first offered him a scholarship last summer, and the list of programs involved has only grown since then.
His offer sheet includes Cincinnati, Washington, Boston College, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Butler, Alabama, George Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, Providence, Virginia Tech, Florida State, George Mason, Georgetown and Morehead State, among others.
Kayser also noted that Lyons is listed at No. 43 overall in the @SCNext 100. A few weeks ago, Lyons said on X, via the account NXN, that he hopes to officially visit Alabama, Boston College, Butler, Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Texas, VCU and Virginia as well.
The buzz around Lyons isn’t limited to the rankings he already holds. He made the All-Met first team in the Washington, D.C. area as a junior, and some analysts and scouts believe he is set for a major rise in the 2027 rankings.
There will be two more live periods on the EYBL circuit in July, and McNamara and his staff are expected to be there, too, continuing their push for Lyons and other 2027 and 2028 targets.

Syracuse Just Entered An Early Recruiting Battle Fans Need To Watch
Syracuses early recruiting board is already taking shape under first-year coach Gerry McNamara, and the Orange have made contact with one of the more intriguing young wings in the 2028 class as the newly opened contact period begins to unfold. The 6-foot-6 prospect from The Phelps School in Pennsylvania has quickly attracted attention from high-major programs, with Syracuse now in the mix alongside schools such as Stanford and Northwestern.
Recruiting services have the wing rated among the top players in his class nationally and in Pennsylvania, which helps explain why this feels like an early battle worth tracking rather than a routine check-in. For Syracuse, the challenge will be staying relevant as more power-conference programs continue to circle, and the next phase of the process will show whether the Orange can turn that initial contact into something more substantial. Another Local Syracuse Commit Is Fueling Fran Browns 2027 Momentum
Noah Collins-Howards path to Syracuse has only deepened the Oranges 2027 momentum, with the Rush-Henrietta wide receiver making his official visit to campus in June after already pledging to the program in March. The three-star prospect has become one of the more notable local names in the class, and his trip gave him a closer look at the coaches, the locker room feel and the group of future teammates he is set to join under Fran Brown.
For Syracuse, the appeal goes beyond landing a top-10 prospect in New York. Collins-Howard is part of a 2027 class that keeps expanding, and the Orange have made a clear point of building around relationships, local ties and buy-in to Browns culture. With the class continuing to grow, every visit from a committed player like Collins-Howard helps reinforce the message Syracuse is trying to send to the rest of the region. [Read more 🡒]
Syracuses New 7-Footer Could Change Everything On Defense
Abdramane Siby arrives at Syracuse with the kind of profile the Orange have been hunting for at the back line of the defense: a 7-footer with length, athleticism and real shot-blocking presence. The path to campus has been a long one, too, with the Mali native spending time in Italy and later Serbia before landing in college basketball as a prospect who already stood out to evaluators such as Gerry McNamara and Jonathan Givony.
For Syracuse, the appeal is obvious because the team needs someone who can alter shots and make drivers think twice before they get to the rim. Sibys defensive reputation has followed him from Europe to the ACC, and the early buzz around him is less about raw size than the way he uses it, with motor and instincts that suggest he can be more than just a body in the paint.
