Syracuse Just Made A Big Move For A Rising New York Big Man

Syracuse basketball extends an offer to promising big man Damian Mojica, highlighting their keen interest in his growing talent and potential.

Syracuse basketball has added another name to its 2028 board, and this one comes with some real momentum.

Damian Mojica, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Yonkers, N.Y., has picked up a scholarship offer from the Orange after visiting the Hill last month. Mojica, a rising junior at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., also confirmed the news on social media Monday afternoon.

Mojica has been on Syracuse’s radar for a while, but now the interest has turned official. The offer comes after an unofficial visit to Central New York in late June, when Orange assistant Ben Lee brought him in. That trip went well, and Mojica also got a chance to meet Carmelo Anthony, who was on the Hill watching an Orange practice.

Lee remains the lead recruiter for Mojica, and Syracuse kept close tabs on him again last weekend during a live period in Las Vegas. Lee and other Syracuse coaches were on site for the EYBL session, and Lee watched several of Mojica’s games, according to the report.

Mojica is playing this spring and summer for the 16U PSA Cardinals out of Bronx, N.Y., in Nike’s EYBL league. The Cardinals’ roster is loaded with Syracuse connections, too. Mojica is alongside 2028 guard/wing Kingsley Rogers, 2028 five-star wing Kevin Wheatley Jr. and 2028 four-star point guard Malik Moore.

The Cardinals went 5-0 in the 16U division in Las Vegas and improved to 9-4 overall. That run punched their ticket to the EYBL season-ending Peach Jam, set for July 14-19 in North Augusta, S.C.

Mojica’s production has matched the buzz. In AAU play this season, he’s averaging 15.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 62.5 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from 3-point range and 65.4 percent at the line.

His early offer list already includes Oral Roberts, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Arkansas-Little Rock, East Carolina, Kennesaw State and Wake Forest.

The recruiting rankings back up the rising profile. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite has Mojica at No. 132 overall, No. 17 among power forwards and No. 2 in New York. Rivals’ Industry Ranking slots him at No. 163 nationally, No. 34 at power forward and No. 3 in the state.

Some scouts and analysts believe his play on the EYBL circuit has positioned him for a jump into the four-star range and the top 100 nationally.

Syracuse has also made moves with Mojica’s PSA Cardinals teammates. The Orange re-offered Wheatley, while Rogers and Moore have heard from Syracuse since the 2028 contact period opened on June 15.

As for Mojica, the next step could be another trip to Syracuse. He’s interested in taking an official visit at some point.

Syracuse Just Landed A Visit That Could Say A Lot About Its Future

A major recruiting test is coming into focus for Syracuse basketball, and it starts with Ahmed Nur. The five-star power forward in the 2027 class is set to take an official visit to campus from Aug. 28 to Aug. 30, giving the Orange a chance to make a real impression on one of the countrys top-25 prospects after the new coaching staff extended him a scholarship offer last month.

Nurs trip also comes with plenty of competition around it. He already has official visits lined up with Washington and has previously been to Purdue and Minnesota, while his offer sheet stretches well beyond the usual regional chase and includes a long list of major programs. For Syracuse, landing him in the building is only the first step, but it is the kind of visit that can tell you a lot about where the program stands as it tries to build under Gerry McNamara. Syracuse Defender Just Earned A National Nod That Changes The Conversation

Chris Peals offseason stock is rising at the right time for Syracuse, and Phil Steeles latest preseason guide only adds to the buzz around the cornerback. Steele slotted Peal on his preseason All-America fourth team and also put him among the nations top draft-eligible corners, a notable nod for a player who has become one of the more closely watched defenders on the roster.

Peal also came in as Syracuses highest-rated player on Steeles All-ACC teams, landing on the second team while linebackers Chris DAppolonia and Antoine Deslauriers also earned conference recognition. Even with that defensive praise, Steeles bigger picture for the Orange is still cautious, projecting improvement from last season but only enough to keep them near the bottom of the ACC, with the quarterback and linebacker groups carrying the most optimism and several other position areas still needing to prove they can hold up. Boeheims Army Just Added A Familiar TBT Nightmare

Boeheims Army has settled on its 10-player group for The Basketball Tournament, and the roster again leans heavily on familiar Syracuse connections while still leaving room for outside help. The mix includes six players with Orange ties and four who do not, a balance the club has used before as it tries to blend continuity, depth and enough versatility to survive the single-elimination format.

The latest additions give the group a little more structure in the backcourt and some size inside, with point guards Ty Nichols and Walker joining big man Williams among the new faces. The timing matters, too, because Boeheims Army opens against Hall In at Seton Halls Walsh Gymnasium on FS1, and in TBT there is never much margin for a roster that is still coming together.
