Syracuse basketball has landed its first commitment in the 2027 class, and the Orange did it with a name that had been on the radar for a while.
Jack Donohue, a fast-rising three-star wing from Albany, N.Y., verbally committed to Syracuse, Inside the Loud House learned Monday night. Donohue later confirmed the decision on Instagram, writing in part: "I am blessed to announce my commitment to Syracuse University! I want to thank Coach McNamara and the entire Syracuse basketball coaching staff for this incredible opportunity and for believing in me every step of the way."
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Donohue becomes the first 2027 pledge for first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff. McNamara originally offered Donohue last summer when he was still leading Siena, and after taking over at Syracuse this past March, he and assistant coach Ben Lee kept pushing hard for the wing. Lee also came over from Siena to Syracuse this spring.
That relationship mattered. Inside the Loud House was told Donohue’s long-running connection with McNamara, Lee and others helped push this one over the line.
Donohue’s path has also carried some adversity. He had to endure open-heart surgery last year, and he now attends The Newman School in Boston, which finished 38-3 in the 2025-26 season and won the national prep championship, among other titles. Before that, he played at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany.
Syracuse first extended a scholarship offer to Donohue in late June, and he took an unofficial visit to the Orange on June 22 that went well, according to earlier reporting from Inside the Loud House.
His offer list beyond Syracuse included Marist, Florida Atlantic, Penn State, Siena, Holy Cross, Tennessee Tech, Penn, Albany, Hampton, Bryant and La Salle. He also drew varying levels of interest from Villanova, TCU, George Washington and Duquesne, among others.
Donohue’s stock has kept climbing on the Under Armour Association circuit, where he played this spring and summer for the 17U Jersey Shore, N.J.-based NJ ShoreShots. At the UAA season-ending playoffs last month in Louisville, Ky., he earned praise from scouts at The Circuit after averaging 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
In the 2027 class, the 247Sports Composite lists Donohue as a three-star prospect, No. 271 overall, No. 60 at small forward and No. 4 in Massachusetts.
