Syracuse’s football roster is losing a tight end, but the Orange men’s lacrosse team is about to add a familiar name with real pedigree.
Wyatt Bowman, a redshirt freshman tight end listed at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, will sit out football this fall so he can concentrate on lacrosse, a Syracuse spokesperson told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.
Bowman saw action in four games last season for Fran Brown’s football team. He made his debut against Colgate, then played in Syracuse’s final three games, all losses to Miami, Notre Dame and Boston College.
His departure comes with Syracuse’s tight end group already taking shape around several other options. Western Kentucky transfer Noah Meyers, a redshirt junior, drew praise from quarterback Steve Angeli at the ACC’s media days and could be positioned to start.
Angeli also said he’s ready for senior David Clement to show his abilities as a receiver this season. The room also includes sophomore Daunte Bacheyie, redshirt sophomore Elijah Washington-Baker and freshman Carter Bashir.
On the lacrosse side, Gary Gait is getting a midfielder with size, speed and plenty of recruiting buzz. Bowman was a four-star lacrosse prospect and at one point was ranked as high as No. 20 in the country by Inside Lacrosse.
He grew up in Darien, Connecticut, one of the sport’s hotbeds, and later headed to Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Maryland, a lacrosse powerhouse. Bowman originally committed to North Carolina for lacrosse before Syracuse came in with a football offer.
When he committed to Syracuse in June of 2024, Bowman said he wanted to focus on football at first and then reassess lacrosse after each season. He also said he did not want to juggle both sports, unlike SU quarterback Joe Filardi, who is a long-stick midfielder on the lacrosse team.

Since Gerry McNamara took over, Syracuse has wasted little time laying the groundwork for its 2027 recruiting board, extending scholarship offers across a growing list of high school prospects. Some of those targets have already started to move toward official visits, while others remain firmly on the staffs radar as the Orange try to sort out which names matter most in a class that is still taking shape.
The picture is still fluid, which is part of what makes this stretch important for Syracuse. The fall recruiting period should bring more clarity on who the staff is pushing hardest, and the Orange are also working to line up trips for a few prospects who have not yet locked in plans.
