Syracuse basketball has jumped into the mix for one of the top guards in the 2027 class.
Devin Cleveland, a four-star prospect from Chicago, said on Monday that he picked up a scholarship offer from the Orange under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard is ranked among the top 35 players nationally in his class, and he made the news public on his Instagram page.
Cleveland is a rising senior at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind., where he just put together a strong junior season. La Lumiere finished 22-5 overall and 10-4 in EYBL Scholastic play, good for a top-10 national ranking by MaxPreps. In that league, Cleveland averaged 15.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the field, 47 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line.
His production has carried over to the Nike EYBL circuit this spring and summer, where he’s playing for Bradley Beal Elite’s 17U team out of St. Louis. Through AAU play, Cleveland is putting up 17.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent overall, 27.7 percent from deep and 80.9 percent at the line.
Bradley Beal Elite is 8-7 in EYBL competition and is set to play this week at the Nike league’s season-ending Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C., from July 14 to July 19. Syracuse’s staff was in Las Vegas last weekend for the EYBL session there, and with Cleveland’s offer now public, it’s likely the Orange coaches had a close look at him in person.
Cleveland’s offer list is already deep. Along with Syracuse, he has scholarship offers from TCU, Alabama, Providence, Missouri, Arkansas, Marquette, Michigan, Arizona State, Illinois, DePaul, Bryant and Hampton, among others.
Before his move to La Lumiere, Cleveland made a name for himself at Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago. As a sophomore, he was named a MaxPreps second-team All-American for the 2027 class after averaging 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. Kenwood went 31-2 that season and won its first Chicago Public League title.
On Friday, Cleveland delivered another eye-catching performance for Bradley Beal Elite, pouring in 26 points in a win over Vegas Elite. He added two rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals, and shot 50/50/78 from the field, 3-point line and free-throw line.

For Anthony, the early returns matter because Syracuse is still in the middle of a reset after the coaching change, and the next stretch of summer work will help define how quickly the pieces fit together. The team has already finished its first practice block and is headed into a two-week break before resuming workouts, giving the newcomers a little time to settle in before the Orange get back to building chemistry and roles. Amari Elianos recruiting timeline has turned into a familiar-name story for Syracuse, with the Toledo Central Catholic athlete set to announce his college decision on Aug. 9, which also happens to be his birthday. He has six offers and already made an official visit to Syracuse, where the staff recruited him as a dual-threat athlete and gave him a look at how he could fit into the program.
The Oranges interest carries an obvious family angle, too, since his father, Perry Eliano, recently joined Syracuse as the defensive backs coach.
