Syracuse is making an early push for one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the 2028 class, and Jaxson Carper is paying attention.
The West Coast prospect, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound quarterback from St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif., said he is excited about the scholarship offer he received from Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon on July 15. Inside the Loud House reported Saturday that the Orange are firmly in the mix for Carper, and he wants to take a game-day visit to Syracuse this fall.
Carper’s offer list is already stacked. According to his Instagram page, he currently holds 15 scholarship offers from Syracuse, Utah, UConn, UCLA, Iowa, Nebraska, Marshall, Arizona, Kansas, Georgia State, Toledo, Virginia Tech, SMU, Sacramento State and Texas Tech.
A number of those schools are also drawing his attention. Carper has said Arizona, UCLA, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Utah are standing out to him right now. Rivals lists him as a top-30 quarterback in the 2028 class, and both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking place him inside the top 500 nationally in his cycle.
Syracuse is chasing him with real intent. According to 247Sports, the Orange staff under head coach Fran Brown has extended offers to several quarterbacks in the 2028 class, and Syracuse currently has one verbal commitment in the high school junior group.
Carper’s production as a sophomore backed up the buzz. On his X page, he said he completed 141 of 234 passes for 1,750 yards and 16 touchdowns in the 2025 season. He also totaled 2,006 yards overall and added one rushing touchdown.
He has also made it clear that the work behind the scenes matters to him. In a recent interview with High School On SI, Carper said, "Not a day goes by that I'm not doing something related to the quarterback position because I love it so much.
The other guys are going to be stronger than me - I'm not the most built. But I work every single day.
I've learned how to throw the ball a lot better, and I get in the classroom a lot so I can understand the game better."
When it comes to the modern recruiting game, Carper says the money side is not what will decide his next move. He told High School On SI, "I want to go somewhere I can play."
Syracuse’s only current verbal pledge in the class came last October, when four-star offensive tackle and top-125 national prospect Omari Lawson of Zarephath Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., committed to the Orange.
