Syracuse Is Pushing Hard For A 2027 Wing Fans Need To Watch

Syracuse basketball intensifies efforts to secure top talent Markus Kerr amidst competition from major college programs.

Syracuse basketball is making a serious push for 2027 four-star wing Markus Kerr, and an offer could be next.

The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Kerr, a Charlotte, N.C. native, has drawn heavy attention from the Orange under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. He hasn’t received an official scholarship offer yet, but Inside the Loud House believes one is likely coming from Syracuse’s new staff.

Kerr’s recruitment is not a one-team race. Baylor, Cincinnati, Florida State, Tennessee and Xavier are also among the programs to watch, along with others. He spent this past season at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H.

Kerr has also been active on the grassroots circuit. In recent days, he has been playing for the 17U team of Raleigh, N.C.-based Garner Road in the Adidas 3SSB league’s season-ending playoffs in Rock Hill, S.C. On Saturday, Garner Road met New York City-based New Heights in the quarterfinal round and fell 78-59.

Within the 2027 class, Kerr is ranked as a top-75 national prospect by both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking.

His production at Brewster backed up the ranking. In the 2025-26 season, Kerr helped lead the program to a 30-6 record, and ESPN had the team ranked in the top 20 nationally. According to MaxPreps, he averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals in 29.2 minutes per game while shooting 54 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range and 77 percent at the line.

Syracuse’s work with Kerr fits into a broader 2027 recruiting push. McNamara and his assistants have offered a number of prospects in the class while continuing to evaluate others, and there is now a little more clarity around which high school seniors have emerged as priority targets for the Orange.

Three 2027 players already have official visits lined up to Syracuse: four-star power forward Ian Condon from September 1 to September 2, four-star point guard J’Lon Lyons from September 11 to September 13, and five-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur from August 28 to August 30.

And there should be more visits on the way, too. Inside the Loud House has been told by a source in recent days that additional official visits to the Orange program are expected.

Steve Angeli Just Said What Syracuse Fans Needed To Hear

Steve Angelis presence at ACC Football Kickoff carried a little more weight than a typical summer update. After tearing his Achilles last season, the Syracuse quarterback said he is fully recovered, which matters for a program that watched its momentum change fast once he went down. For a team trying to build on what it learned from that stretch, simply having its expected starter back on track is a meaningful step.

Fran Brown has already made clear that the injury exposed how thin the margin can be at quarterback, especially when a losing streak starts to snowball. Syracuse addressed that room with added depth, but Angelis health remains the central piece of the puzzle, and his progress gives the Orange a far better foundation entering the fall. The next question is whether that recovery holds once camp and contact begin to ramp up. [Read more 🡒]

Fran Brown Is Delivering Syracuse Recruiting Wins Fans Never Used To See

For a program that spent years trying to make noise on the recruiting trail, Syracuse is suddenly collecting commitments and signees that would have seemed far-fetched not long ago. Under Fran Brown, the Orange have paired on-field progress with a sharper national profile, and the last few classes have brought a level of attention that matches the momentum of the programs recent bowl runs and 10-win seasons.

That rise has not been built on one headline name alone, either. Syracuse has landed multiple highly rated prospects across the 2024 to 2028 classes, giving the staff a foundation that looks more like a team trying to stay in the conversation than one hoping to sneak into it. The caveat, of course, is the same one every recruiting story carries in late summer and fall: some of those pledges are still verbal, and the Orange still have to hold onto the momentum they have worked so hard to create. Syracuse Just Made A Serious Move In 2028 RB Michael Martin II's Race

Syracuse has gotten itself firmly into the mix for 2028 running back Michael Martin II, a Greenville, S.C., prospect whose recruitment is already starting to take shape. Martin has picked up about a dozen offers, and the Orange are part of the group he is keeping closest tabs on as he continues to develop into a versatile back with plenty of room to grow.

What makes this one worth watching is the way Syracuse has stayed in regular contact with Martin and kept building the relationship through its staff. He has been in touch with wide receivers coach Josh Gattis and running backs coach Dennis Thomas, and the Orange are trying to stay in the conversation with a prospect who is drawing attention from programs such as Wake Forest and Clemson while sorting through a crowded early field.
