Syracuse football’s 2027 class will get one of its biggest names back on campus twice this fall.
Elijah Kimble, the four-star running back from Buffalo and the highest-ranked verbal commit in the Orange’s 2027 haul, is set to attend game-day visits at the JMA Wireless Dome for Syracuse’s Sept. 12 matchup with California and again when the Orange hosts SMU on Oct. 31, Inside the Loud House has learned.
Kimble gave his verbal pledge to Syracuse in early July after drawing nearly 40 scholarship offers during his recruitment. He also took official visits to Syracuse, North Carolina and Indiana, the team that won last season’s College Football Playoff national championship.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound back is heading into his senior season at Canisius High School, where he has already built a historic résumé. For now, he is not planning to visit any other college programs this fall, Inside the Loud House is told.
The national recruiting services all slot Kimble among the top backs in the class. ESPN lists him at No. 261 overall, No. 21 among running backs and No. 1 in New York.
Rivals’ Industry Ranking has him at No. 343 nationally, No. 25 at running back and No. 2 in the state. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite pegs him at No. 366 overall, No. 24 at his position and No. 2 in the Empire State.
Kimble’s return is part of what figures to be a busy stretch of recruiting traffic on the Hill this fall. Syracuse’s 2027 class now sits at 26 commitments after landing two more verbal pledges over the weekend.
And Kimble won’t be the only notable prospect making the trip to Syracuse in the months ahead.
Orange 2028 pledge Omari Lawson, a four-star offensive tackle from Jacksonville, Fla., is scheduled to take three game-day visits during the 2026 season. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Lawson, who plays at Zarephath Academy, will also see Florida State on Aug. 29 and Florida on Sept. 26.
Another highly regarded offensive lineman, Philadelphia-area target Ty Winn, is also slated to be in attendance for the SMU game on Halloween. The four-star tackle from Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School in Drexel Hill, Pa., is a top-125 national prospect in the 2028 class and one of Syracuse’s top targets.

Syracuse Camp Has Already Raised One Big Concern Up Front
Syracuse is closing out its first week of preseason camp with the 2026 opener still a few weeks away, and Fran Brown has already started sorting through the early tone of the fall. The head coach met with reporters to offer a progress update, and there has been enough on-field work to get a better sense of where the Orange stand as they build toward the Sept. 5 game against New Hampshire.
The biggest concern so far has come on the injury front, where several players have already been nicked up in camp. Sophomore offensive lineman D'Joni Scatliffe is the most notable name in that group, leaving the Orange to adjust up front while the staff waits for more clarity on how the rest of the line holds up over the coming weeks. Syracuses Defensive Line Rebuild Will Define Fran Browns Next Step
Syracuse spent much of the offseason trying to answer the same question its 2025 defense raised all fall: how quickly can the defensive front be fixed? The issues up front helped drive a coaching shakeup, including the arrival of John Scott Jr. as defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator, and the roster work followed. The Orange brought in multiple defensive linemen through the transfer portal and added more help through recruiting, all with an eye toward giving the unit more size, depth and impact than it had a year ago.
What makes the rebuild so important is that Syracuse is not starting from scratch. Rashard Perry and Isaiah Hastings remain part of the plan, giving the staff some returning pieces to build around while the newcomers settle in. The challenge now is turning that mix of experience and fresh arrivals into a group that can hold up over a full season, because for Fran Browns next step, the answer on the defensive line may say as much as anything else about where the program is headed. Syracuse Still Owes Art Monk A Moment Fans Have Waited For
Syracuse still has a lingering honor on its football calendar, and it concerns one of the programs most celebrated alumni. Art Monks jersey retirement has been waiting in the wings, and with the Orange heading toward the 2026 season, the university has yet to say exactly when it plans to stage the ceremony for the former wide receiver.
The timing now appears to rest with new athletic director Byran Blair, who will help determine where the tribute fits into the schedule. A fall home date could make the most sense for a celebration of Monks place in Syracuse history, but for now the program is still sorting out when fans finally get the moment they have been anticipating.
