Syracuse Is Chasing Something Bigger Than One Early 5-Star Commit

Syracuse's basketball staff is in Las Vegas scouting top-tier high school talent, with a particular focus on their committed standout Moussa Kamissoko and other promising prospects.

Syracuse basketball’s recruiting footprint is in Las Vegas this weekend, with the Orange staff on hand for the Border League and a deep list of high school talent that includes a committed five-star and several other major targets.

A source told Inside the Loud House that Syracuse coaches are at the annual preseason showcase, which started Friday and runs through Sunday with multiple nationally televised games. One of the biggest names on the board is 2027 five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko, who verbally committed to Syracuse late last month. Kamissoko is a senior at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, and Spire is set to face Fear of God from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Sunday at 7:00 pm EST on ESPN2.

Sunday’s ESPN2 slate also includes Prolific Prep from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., against the Golden Knights from La Cañada Flintridge, Calif., at 5:00 pm EST, followed by Southeastern Preparatory Academy from Orlando, Fla., against AZ Compass Prep School from Chandler, Ariz., at 9:00 pm EST.

At Prolific Prep, Syracuse is linked to a pair of elite guards: 2027 five-star point guard Nasir Anderson and 2028 five-star point guard Michai White. Both hold offers from the Orange.

The staff is also evaluating 2028 five-star center Bamba Touray. Anderson had been scheduled to take an official visit to Syracuse last month, but the trip was canceled.

Syracuse also has a scholarship offer out to Ka'Shawn Gill, a 2028 four-star combo guard at Southeastern Prep, while the Orange coaches are evaluating 2028 four-star guard Darren Ford of AZ Compass Prep.

The Border League field appears to give Syracuse even more chances to scout familiar names tied to the program. Based on schedules found online, other teams in Las Vegas that feature Orange recruits include CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, Iowa United Prep in Des Moines, Iowa, IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, among others.

At CIA Bella Vista, Syracuse is tracking 2027 four-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur, a senior with the defending national champions, who took an official visit to the Hill in late August. The Orange also hold offers to three 2028 prospects there: four-star forward Isaiah Clarke, five-star point guard Liam Mitakaro and four-star forward Settimo Yugu.

Iowa United Prep features Kevin Wheatley Jr., a 2028 five-star wing who recently transferred there. Syracuse has offered Wheatley, who took an unofficial visit to SU last December.

At IMG, the Orange have offered Will Brunson, a 2028 five-star wing/small forward who transferred there for his junior season. And at Columbus, Syracuse recently offered Tai Bell, a 2028 five-star point guard who took an unofficial visit to the Hill in early March and, according to Inside the Loud House, is interested in visiting Syracuse again.

Bell was also featured in Border League action, with League Ready posting that the 4⭐️ Tai Bell was getting buckets for Los Explorers at Border League 🪣🔥 @brdrleague pic.twitter.com/Vm5fUjFlgh

Syracuse Fans Have A Real Reason To Watch The ACC Split

The ACCs annual Tipoff in Charlotte had the usual preseason buzz for both the mens and womens basketball sides, but the leagues biggest conversation was happening off the court. Commissioner Jim Phillips spent part of the day fielding questions about the Protect College Sports Act of 2026, a proposal that could reshape how conferences operate and how schools think about their future.

For Syracuse fans, the real intrigue is in the unease around conference realignment. Phillips said four of the leagues 18 school presidents have concerns about portions of the bill tied to that issue, even as the ACC continues to point to rising TV ratings and a healthier financial picture, with revenue distributions expected to approach $1 billion for the first time. For a league long under pressure to prove its stability, those competing forces make the next stretch worth watching closely. [Read more 🡒]

Syracuse Gets A Huge Amarri Monroe Boost As Eligibility Fight Continues

Amarri Monroe is suddenly available for Syracuse mens basketball as the legal fight over his eligibility moves forward, giving the Orange a timely boost before their season opener. Onondaga County Supreme Court judge Jean Marie Westlake granted Monroe a preliminary injunction, clearing the way for him to suit up while he pursues his case against the NCAA.

Monroes lawsuit seeks a fifth year of eligibility after the NCAA left him out of a new rule that grants five years to other players. The ruling came after a hearing and legal arguments centered on his status, and while the immediate result helps Syracuse right away, the bigger question of how Monroes case ultimately resolves is still hanging in the air. Syracuse Faces A Growing Debate After That UConn Escape

Syracuses escape against UConn did more than preserve a win in the moment. It also set off the usual ripple effect that follows a shaky result this early in the season, with the Orange moving through several college football ranking systems as ESPNs SP+, CBS Sports, The Athletic and College Football News all adjusted their views of the team after a game that was far closer than it had any business being.

There was at least some good news to offset the uneasiness, with Tylik Hill and Umari Hatcher both picking up ACC weekly honors. Even so, the broader conversation around Syracuse now feels less about the scoreboard from that night and more about what it says moving forward, especially with a full slate of ACC results around the league and Week 6 already on deck.
