Syracuse basketball may be closing in on a major recruiting win.
On Tuesday morning, national reporter Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals logged a prediction that the Orange will eventually land a verbal commitment from Moussa Kamissoko, a five-star wing/small forward in the 2027 class and one of Syracuse’s top targets. Kamissoko, a Bronx native, recently took an official visit to Syracuse earlier this month.
There’s been growing momentum around this recruitment for a while. Another national analyst told Inside the Loud House on Tuesday morning that Syracuse does appear to have buzz with Kamissoko, and the Orange have been chasing him aggressively for a long time. The first scholarship offer from the former Syracuse staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry came in late December 2024.
The new staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara has stayed heavily involved as well. Since the fall recruiting period opened on September 9, Syracuse has been in to see the 6-foot-8, 180-pound prospect during at least two open gyms at his high school, according to Inside the Loud House reporting.
Kamissoko’s senior-year move only adds to the attention around him. He transferred from Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., to Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, a program that enters the year with serious national buzz. MADE Hoops recently ranked Spire No. 1 in its preseason top 25 for the 2026-27 high school season, and the school is led by veteran head coach Kevin Boyle.
Inside the Loud House also noted last month that Spire is among the programs expected to be in the mix for a high school national championship in 2026-27.
Kamissoko’s profile is as strong as Syracuse could hope for. Rivals has him as high as No. 7 in the 2027 class, and both the 247Sports Composite and the Rivals Industry Ranking place him inside the top 15 nationally.
His visit list has been busy, too. Beyond Syracuse, Kamissoko has taken recent trips to Providence, Florida State, Oklahoma State and Illinois, with the Providence stop listed as unofficial and the others coming by way of visits noted on Instagram. There have also been reports that he is considering additional official visits, though it remains to be seen whether those trips will happen.
Tipton also reported that Kamissoko is nearing a college decision. The 17U standout for the Bronx-based PSA Cardinals in Nike’s EYBL league turned in a strong AAU season, and if he does choose Syracuse, he would join three-star wing Jack Donohue, an Albany, N.Y., product from The Newman School in Boston, in the Orange’s 2027 class.

Syracuse is getting closer to having its backcourt settled for the season, but Garwey Dual remains the key variable as preseason work moves forward. The senior point guard, who arrived with the expectation of giving the Orange a steady hand at the position, has been taking part in non-contact drills while continuing to recover from a dislocated collarbone suffered in July. The encouraging part for Syracuse is that the injury is not expected to keep him out once games begin.
Even so, there is still a practical question the Orange have to answer before tipoff: what does the rotation look like if Dual is not ready for full contact in time? Freshman Ryan Moesch and juniors Aiden Tobiason and Gavin Doty are among the options to handle point guard duties if needed, and that decision could shape how Syracuse opens the year.
