Syracuse football has made a real impression on one of the West Coast’s 2028 quarterbacks.
Ayden Edwards, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound three-star from Tustin High School in Tustin, Calif., is high on the Orange and plans to visit Syracuse for a game this fall, according to Inside the Loud House. Edwards has been in regular contact with the program, including new quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan, after picking up an offer from Syracuse in the spring.

Edwards turned in a strong sophomore season for Tustin, which finished 9-2 in the 2025 campaign. In a post on X, he said he completed 146 of 219 passes for 2,102 yards, 21 touchdowns and five interceptions.
The Orange are very much in the running, but this recruitment is crowded. Edwards’ offer list, according to recruiting services, includes Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Boston College, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Washington, SMU, Oregon State, Washington State, Colorado State, Sacramento State, Toledo and UNLV.
Other programs standing out to him right now include Purdue, Arizona, Arizona State and Texas A&M.
The national recruiting services have him rated as a solid prospect in the 2028 class. The industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking has Edwards at No. 498 overall, No. 40 among quarterbacks and No. 41 in California. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite lists him at No. 523 nationally, No. 34 at quarterback and No. 41 in California.
Edwards isn’t the only California quarterback showing strong interest in Syracuse. Jaxson Carper, another 2028 three-star from the state, is also high on the Orange.
Carper, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound passer from St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif., was offered by Syracuse on July 15 and also wants to make a game-day visit to campus this fall, though nothing has been scheduled.
Carper’s list of schools standing out to him includes Syracuse, Arizona, UCLA, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Utah.
Fran Brown and his staff already have one 2028 verbal commitment in the fold: four-star offensive tackle Omari Lawson of Zarephath Academy in Jacksonville, Fla. Lawson is also set to take multiple game-day visits to Syracuse this fall.

Syracuse Camp Has Already Raised One Big Concern Up Front
Syracuse is closing out its first week of preseason camp with the 2026 opener still a few weeks away, and Fran Brown has already started sorting through the early tone of the fall. The head coach met with reporters to offer a progress update, and there has been enough on-field work to get a better sense of where the Orange stand as they build toward the Sept. 5 game against New Hampshire.
The biggest concern so far has come on the injury front, where several players have already been nicked up in camp. Sophomore offensive lineman D'Joni Scatliffe is the most notable name in that group, leaving the Orange to adjust up front while the staff waits for more clarity on how the rest of the line holds up over the coming weeks. Syracuse spent much of the offseason trying to answer the same question its 2025 defense raised all fall: how quickly can the defensive front be fixed? The issues up front helped drive a coaching shakeup, including the arrival of John Scott Jr. as defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator, and the roster work followed. The Orange brought in multiple defensive linemen through the transfer portal and added more help through recruiting, all with an eye toward giving the unit more size, depth and impact than it had a year ago.
What makes the rebuild so important is that Syracuse is not starting from scratch. Rashard Perry and Isaiah Hastings remain part of the plan, giving the staff some returning pieces to build around while the newcomers settle in. The challenge now is turning that mix of experience and fresh arrivals into a group that can hold up over a full season, because for Fran Browns next step, the answer on the defensive line may say as much as anything else about where the program is headed. Syracuse still has a lingering honor on its football calendar, and it concerns one of the programs most celebrated alumni. Art Monks jersey retirement has been waiting in the wings, and with the Orange heading toward the 2026 season, the university has yet to say exactly when it plans to stage the ceremony for the former wide receiver.
The timing now appears to rest with new athletic director Byran Blair, who will help determine where the tribute fits into the schedule. A fall home date could make the most sense for a celebration of Monks place in Syracuse history, but for now the program is still sorting out when fans finally get the moment they have been anticipating.
