Syracuse Has A Big Recruiting Opportunity Against SMU

As Syracuse gears up to challenge No. 19 SMU, they're also hosting key recruits like Arthur Jones IV and Ty Winn, highlighting the stakes both on and off the field this Saturday.

Syracuse football will have a busy recruiting weekend on its hands when it meets No. 19 SMU on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome.

More than 10 high school prospects are expected to be in the building for the Halloween matinee, including a couple of major 2028 targets: local standout Arthur Jones IV and Ty Winn, a four-star offensive tackle from the Philadelphia area. Both are priority recruits for Syracuse in the high school junior class.

The Orange comes home riding a dramatic 1-point overtime win at North Carolina, a result that improved Syracuse to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the ACC. SMU arrives with plenty of momentum of its own, having won four straight to move to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.

The Mustangs are tied for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with No. 14 Wake Forest, one game behind No.

1 Miami.

The visitor list, which was provided to Inside the Loud House by a source, may not be complete.

Among the expected guests is Winn, a 2028 four-star prospect and top-200 national player in this class. The Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School product in Drexel Hill, Pa., already holds a Syracuse scholarship offer.

Also on hand should be Anthony Smith, a 2028 three-star quarterback from Fairmont Senior High School in Fairmont, W. Va., who also has an offer from Syracuse.

Other expected visitors include Zymere Weaver, a 2028 quarterback from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison, N.J.; Michael Rogers, a 2028 running back from Franklin High School in Somerset, N.J.; Hadden Martinez, a 2028 offensive lineman from New Hartford Senior High School in New Hartford, N.Y.; Ethan Hunter, a 2028 defensive lineman from Our Lady Of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md.; Jalen Gunnell-Wallace, a 2028 defensive lineman from Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, N.J.; Braeden Harper, a 2028 defensive lineman from Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Va.; and Alex Davis, a 2030 defensive lineman from Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y., who also holds a Syracuse offer.

Syracuse Just Got A Strong Fran Brown Message From Its New AD

Syracuses football leadership got a clear public vote of confidence this week when athletic director Bryan Blair talked about Fran Brown on ESPN Radio. Blair did not dance around the subject, stressing Browns value to the program and pushing back on the old-school idea that a new athletic director has to immediately bring in his guy to make his mark.

Blair also used the interview to touch on the broader changes happening inside the athletic department, while giving a look ahead at the Oranges upcoming football schedule. For a program trying to build momentum under Brown, the message from the top was less about change for changes sake and more about keeping the focus on what Syracuse already has in place. Syracuse Turns To An Unconventional Kicking Fix Before Its Next ACC Test

Syracuse is trying something a little out of the ordinary as it gets ready for its next ACC test, adding mens soccer midfielder Quinn Olcott as a kicker, according to coach Fran Brown. The move comes after missed field goals from current options Shay Barker and Tripp Woody, a reminder that the Orange are still searching for more certainty on special teams.

Olcott is not a finished product at the position, but Syracuse is willing to take a look after he showed some range in practice, including a 55-yard field goal. For a team trying to steady itself before another conference game, the bigger question now is whether an unconventional crossover can give the Orange a more dependable answer when they need one most. Syracuse Kicking Woes Just Forced An Unexpected Roster Move

Syracuse has turned to an unusual solution to help steady a kicking game that has been too shaky for comfort. The Orange have added soccer player Quinn Olcott to the roster to provide depth at kicker, a move that speaks to how much the staff wants more options after missed field goals and extra points have become part of the conversation.

Olcott is expected to sit behind Shay Barker and Tripp Woody, with Woody also dealing with injuries, giving Syracuse another body at a spot that has suddenly become a concern. At 3-4 and with SMU next on the schedule, the Orange are trying to patch one of the most unforgiving parts of the game before it costs them again. [Read more 🡒]
