As the Syracuse Orange continue to shape their future under head coach Fran Brown, the 2027 recruiting class is already starting to take form-and it’s clear Brown isn’t wasting any time. Over the weekend, Syracuse picked up two more commitments, both from the state of Pennsylvania, and both addressing key areas of need.
Let’s start in the trenches, where Brown landed a big body-literally. Edwin Guzman, an offensive lineman from Erie, PA, committed to the Orange and brings with him a towering frame at 6-foot-8, 310 pounds.
While Guzman isn’t currently ranked by the major recruiting services, his size alone makes him an intriguing prospect. That kind of length and mass at the tackle position is exactly what Brown and his staff are targeting as they look to build a physically dominant offensive line.
Guzman is raw, sure, but in terms of measurables, he checks every box. If Syracuse can develop his technique and footwork, this could be a long-term win in the trenches.
Joining Guzman in the 2027 class is running back Sa’Nir Brooks, who plays his high school ball at powerhouse St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
Brooks is rated as a three-star prospect by both 247Sports and On3, and the 247 composite ranks him as the 34th-best running back in the class. That’s no small feat, especially considering the kind of competition he faces week in and week out at St.
Frances.
Brooks had a solid list of offers-Pitt, Rutgers, Michigan State, and Maryland were all in the mix-which tells you he’s not flying under anyone’s radar. He’s a back with burst, vision, and the kind of toughness that fits right into the ACC. His commitment gives Syracuse a versatile weapon in the backfield and adds some early firepower to a class that’s already showing signs of strong regional recruiting.
It’s still early days for the 2027 cycle, but these two additions speak to a clear strategy. Brown is looking to establish a physical identity-starting up front with size and length, and pairing that with dynamic skill players who can make plays in space. With Guzman and Brooks on board, the Orange are off to a promising start in building that foundation.
