Former Syracuse guard Eric Devendorf will not play again in this summer’s The Basketball Tournament after suffering a knee injury in Boeheim’s Army’s latest game, according to media reports.
Devendorf, 39, was hurt Thursday night in Syracuse during Boeheim’s Army’s 81-76 win over the Seton Hall alumni team Hall In, a result that sent the Syracuse-based squad into the quarterfinals of the 2026 TBT. The winner of the event takes home a $2 million grand prize.
The injury ends the run for one of the most decorated players in TBT history. Devendorf, a 6-foot-3 guard and a key part of Boeheim’s Army’s title run in 2021, had already contributed seven points in last Tuesday’s 82-52 victory over Hall In on the road.
Boeheim’s Army now turns to a quarterfinal matchup against Kentucky alumni team La Familia on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm EST at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky., with Fox carrying the game.
The roster situation is already tight for Boeheim’s Army. The team was without power forward Jacorey Williams, wing Wes Johnson and power forward Chris McCullough in its first two games. It remains unclear whether any of them will be available Sunday.
According to reports, general manager and assistant coach Shaun Belbey is considering adding another player through a reserve list that is new to the tournament in 2026. Any player on that list would have to be activated at least 24 hours before tipoff, which means by 2:00 pm EST on Saturday.
Devendorf will stay with Boeheim’s Army and help in a coaching role. Boeheim’s Army faces a big test in Lexington, in a rematch of the 1996 national championship game won by Kentucky.
