Syracuse basketball’s 2027 recruiting board is starting to come into focus as official visits pile up and high school seniors continue trimming their lists.
With the Division I men’s hoops dead period ending on August 19 and the fall recruiting period set to open on September 9, the Orange are moving into the part of the cycle where things get real. Visits are being locked in, coaches are preparing to get back on the road, and the next wave of evaluations is about to begin.
Right now, Syracuse has one verbal commitment in the class: three-star wing Jack Donohue, an Albany, N.Y., native who attends The Newman School in Boston. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Donohue took an unofficial visit to the Hill in late June.
Beyond that, the Orange have three clear priority targets in 2027, according to a source: five-star point guard Nasir Anderson, five-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur and five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko.
Anderson, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound lead guard at Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has Syracuse in his top 10 and is set to take an official visit to SU sometime during the weekend of Thursday, Sept. 17, to Sunday, Sept. 20, Inside the Loud House reported on Monday. His list also includes Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Providence, Tennessee, UConn and Virginia.
McNamara is pushing hard for Anderson, but the Orange are fighting a crowded field, and Anderson is not expected to sign during the early period this November. He’ll also likely require a significant financial package.
Nur, who will play his senior season at CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix after helping the program win last season’s high school national championship, recently took an official visit to Syracuse and it went well. The 6-foot-9, 190-pound prospect has also officially visited Ole Miss and Purdue, and he made an unofficial visit to Minnesota. He is scheduled to officially visit Texas on September 4, and Syracuse is watching to see whether any more trips get added or whether a commitment timeline starts to take shape.
Kamissoko is next on the list of major visitors. The 6-foot-8, 180-pound wing recently transferred to Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, and he’ll be on campus for an official visit to Syracuse from September 3 to September 4. He was at Florida State this past weekend and also has official visits lined up for Virginia, Oklahoma State, BYU, Illinois, UConn, Louisville and Baylor.
Syracuse has been recruiting Kamissoko for a while. The Orange first offered him in late December 2024, back when Adrian Autry was still leading the program. For now, the staff feels good about where it stands with both Kamissoko and Nur, with each recruit appearing to be among the top options on Syracuse’s board.
There have also been some recent list cuts that included the Orange. Five-star combo guard King Gibson has Syracuse in his top 10, four-star guard Devin Cleveland has the Orange in his top seven, and four-star wing Carson Crawford has Syracuse in his top five. Still, a source said Syracuse is not aggressively pursuing Gibson, Cleveland or Crawford at the moment.
One other change: 2027 four-star wing/forward Ian Condon is no longer set to officially visit Syracuse this week. He had been scheduled to be on campus from September 1 to September 2, but two sources confirmed the change, and Inside the Loud House reported on Monday that there is no rift between Condon and the Syracuse staff. The two sides simply decided to go in different directions.
And then there’s another name to keep in mind: five-star center Lewis Uvwo, who plays with Anderson at Prolific Prep. Syracuse offered Uvwo in the spring, and the Orange have continued talking with the 6-foot-10, 225-pound big man. For now, though, other programs seem to be more active in his recruitment.

JuJuan Johnson is likely to be held out even though he has been cleared to play, while Ahmad Miller is expected to be available despite dealing with an injury, leaving Tylik Hill or Matthew Ouetten in position to get the start at running back.
The uncertainty does not stop there, either, with Tyshawn Russell and Justus Ross-Simmons among the players not listed because of injury or playing status. Fran Brown spent the final stretch before Syracuses season opener doing what a coach usually does this time of year: trying to quiet the noise around roles, health and depth while making sure the roster is ready for New Hampshire. He pointed to the programs progress on the roster and praised the staff work behind it, while also singling out sophomore defensive back Demetres Samuel Jr. as a player whose development has stood out in camp.
There are still a couple of spots worth watching once the Orange kick off, though. Brown said transfer running back JuJuan Johnson is likely to sit out the opener as a precaution, and the backup quarterback battle between Amari Odom and Malachi Nelson remains unsettled heading into Week 1.
