Jamie Tremble Gives Syracuse One Of Camps Most Intriguing Decisions

Jamie Tremble's versatility and impactful dual-role performance make him a player to watch as Syracuse Football seeks to rebound this season.

Jamie Tremble keeps showing why Syracuse can use him almost anywhere.

The junior has already spent time on both sides of the ball for the Orange, and that kind of flexibility could matter again this regular season as Syracuse tries to bounce back from a 3-9 campaign. He’s been part of a growing trend in college football, where players are taking on roles on offense and defense. Travis Hunter did it at Colorado, and Utah’s Lander Barton also handled both sides in multiple games last season.

Syracuse has followed that path, too. Demetres Samuel Jr. got work at wide receiver in 2025, and Tremble joined him by logging snaps at both defensive end and tight end.

A former four-star recruit, Tremble arrived as one of the biggest names Fran Brown has signed during his three-year run as head coach. The 6-foot-4 junior has steadily added to his value since then.

As a freshman in 2024, he appeared in all 12 games and split his time between tight end and special teams. Last season, he again played in all 12 games, made four starts, lined up at tight end on offense, and finished with 18 tackles on defense.

His versatility showed up again in April, when he played on the defensive line in the spring game and recorded a tackle for loss.

After practice on Thursday, Tremble explained how the staff has been using him.

"They (the coaching staff) are just having me move where ever they want me to. Honestly, versatility, I think, is the best thing and Coach VK's (defensive coordinator Vince Kehres) emphasis has been on the defense and you can play anywhere. So wherever they put me, that's where I'll play."

He also described what it’s been like working with the linebackers.

" It's been great. I've been learning so much from Coach VK and Coach Bolden (Dan Bolden), they are taking me under their wing. Guys like Chris (D'Appolonia) who have been in the defense for a while, just asking questions, learning a lot from those guys, just defensive concepts in general, it's been great."

For now, Tremble looks set to spend more time on defense this season, though his offense value still gives Syracuse another option when needed.

The next open training camp practice for the media is Aug. 24. Syracuse’s season opener comes Sept. 5 at noon ET against New Hampshire.

Syracuse Practice Just Raised A New Question About The Orange Offense

With Week 3 training camp rolling on and the Orange drawing plenty of eyes from alumni, donors and national media, Syracuse spent its third practice sharpening the shape of an offense that will soon matter a lot more. The opener against New Hampshire is coming on Sept. 5, and even in August, the questions around how this unit will function are starting to feel more immediate.

The running back group has already taken a hit with Yasin Willis gone, which leaves Ahmad Miller and Ju'Juan Johnson positioned to handle much of the load. Quarterback is still the bigger mystery, though, and Zaid Lott remains a name to watch even with veteran options ahead of him in the room. For an offense trying to find its footing before the season begins, those decisions could end up defining how Syracuse looks once the games count. [Read more 🡒]

Syracuse Wide Receiver Battle Just Took An Unexpected Turn

Fall camp is starting to sort out Syracuses depth chart, and the wide receiver room has become one of the more interesting spots to watch as the season opener approaches. Tyshawn Russell, Umari Hatcher and Julian McFadden have all put together strong showings in practice, giving the Orange some needed competition and energy as the offense continues to settle in. On the other side of the ball, defensive lineman Tunmise Adeleye has also been one of the more noticeable standouts, a reminder that several positions are still being shaped by what happens on the practice field.

The receiver group, though, has taken a hit with Terrell Wilfong sidelined by a collarbone injury, thinning the options just as the battles are getting sharper. Syracuse also got a boost when Justus Ross-Simmons returned to practice after conversations with the coaching staff, and that adds another layer to how Fran Brown can approach the room in the days ahead. With fall camp moving forward, the Orange still have decisions to make and more moving pieces than theyd probably prefer this close to kickoff. [Read more 🡒]

Syracuse Alum Earns Another Big Stage After Boeheim's Army Run

Cole Swider keeps finding his way onto meaningful basketball stages, and his latest one comes with a USA jersey attached. The former Syracuse forward has been selected to represent Team USA in the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying games, another notable stop for a player whose path has already included the NBA and a recent run with Boeheims Army in The Basketball Tournament.
