Gerry McNamara On Verge Of Major Transfer Portal Splash

Rising star Ryan Moesch may pivot from Siena to Syracuse as coaching shifts shake up his college basketball journey.

Ryan Moesch, a standout four-star point guard from Central New York, made headlines when he committed to Siena last November. At the time, this was a historic moment for the Saints as Moesch became the highest-ranked recruit in the program's history under then-head coach Gerry McNamara.

Fast forward to today, and McNamara has taken the helm at Syracuse, his alma mater, stepping in for Adrian Autry. Moesch, standing at 6 feet and ranked among the top 150 national prospects in the 2026 class, initially chose Siena over Providence. However, with McNamara's move, there's growing speculation that Moesch might seek a release from his Siena commitment-a common occurrence when there's a coaching change.

Rumors are swirling that if Moesch does request and receive his release, he might follow McNamara to Syracuse. This potential move mirrors the situation of Siena star guard Gavin Doty, who is also considering entering the transfer portal.

Syracuse has had its eye on Moesch in the past. Back in February 2025, the Orange coaching staff was in contact with him, although no scholarship offer was extended at that time.

Moesch's journey has been impressive. He shone during the 2023-24 season at Chittenango High School, just 20 miles from Syracuse.

He then took his talents to Cushing Academy in Massachusetts, where he helped lead his team to the quarterfinals of the National Prep Championship as a senior. His performance earned him a spot on the event's All-America first team.

Last summer, Moesch was a pivotal player for the Middlesex Magic's 17U team in the Under Armour Association league, contributing significantly to their third-place finish in the playoffs.

As the basketball world watches closely, the question remains: Will Moesch make the leap to Syracuse under McNamara's guidance, or will he chart his own path at Siena? Either way, his talent and potential make him a player to watch in the coming years.
