Stanford Gets A Rare Homecoming Setup Fans Will Want To See

Stanford gears up for a historic gridiron debut against Elon as Reunion Homecoming sets the stage for a memorable clash.

Stanford is back at home Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff against Elon on ACC Network Extra, with the Cardinal opening a stretch of two straight games on The Farm. It’s the final non-conference game on Stanford’s 2026 regular-season schedule, and the matchup brings a first-time opponent to campus - Stanford and Elon have never faced each other on the gridiron.

The timing gives this one a little extra note. Saturday will be the first time since 2001 that Stanford has played back-to-back non-conference regular-season games in October or later.

The Cardinal came off a trip to No. 3 Notre Dame last week and now gets another non-league test before turning the page.

Home has been a comfortable place for Stanford recently. The Cardinal is 7-3 over its last 10 games at home dating back to 2024, and it has gone 2-1 at Stanford Stadium this season.

The lone setback came against the national runner-up in the CFP Championship game, No. 7 Miami.

In both home wins, Stanford put up 37 points and piled up more than 460 yards of offense.

Even with some offensive rough patches in its last two road games, Stanford has still shown the kind of explosive passing plays that can flip a game in a hurry. The Cardinal has six completions of 40 yards or more, four of at least 50 yards, and three of at least 60 yards, all of which rank among the top five in the ACC. Only Louisville has more passing plays of 60 yards or longer this season with four.

Stanford has also gotten steady help from Aidan Flintoft, who has been a major field-position asset all year. He leads the ACC in punt yardage with 1,567, which is second-most in FBS, and his 42.5 net-yard average ranks fifth in the conference. Stanford’s punt coverage unit has backed that up by doing its job all season.

On defense, fifth-year safety Jay Green is tied for the Stanford lead with 38 tackles. That puts him second among ACC safeties and tied for fourth among defensive backs in the conference.

Caden High has given Stanford a big-play presence at receiver. Among qualified ACC receivers, he ranks seventh in yards per catch at 16.5, and no wideout in the league has more catches of 40-plus yards or 50-plus yards. High has three receptions of at least 40 yards and two of at least 50.

The game also falls during Reunion Homecoming weekend, with Stanford welcoming back alumni across generations. This year’s featured classes are the 1s and 6s, including the 50-year reunion of the Class of 1976. Stanford also has the recent homecoming result in its favor, after beating Florida State 20-13 during Reunion Homecoming last year.
